Title: Something to do
Post by: Homer on August 03, 2010, 03:26:09 AM
I've run out of things to do.  Boredom seems to be an extremely common enemy.  Finding a solution is imperative, or the communists will win.

Attempted maneuvering in-theatre thus far has been fairly comprehensive.  I've learned to cook something other than chili and coffee.  Tried mostly everything I can think of - metalwork, electronics, working out, textiles, training my dog, even stone carving.  Yes, mutha f0ckers, I've carved stone.
I keep getting bored with everything.  Total waste of resources, despite the gain in experience.

Battle-space/Terrain: suburban townhouse community, dug-in/defensive position with fall-back capability

Enemy capability intel:  4G internet aircard, motorized transport, light tactical optionality (surface based), offensive weaponry highly limited with severely depleted ammo stocks, typical guerrilla supply-chain restrictions, limited but capable manufacturing bases, enhanced terrain knowledge.

Alliances:  Dog (small, dumb, furry; one each),  Wife  (small, dumb, furry; one each)

Futile maneuvers:  organized sports, fishing, hunting, drug manufacturing, masturbatory aids, things related to the words "Xbox" "Playstation" "Nintendo" and "television", criminal activity, extended travel requirements

limiting factors:  full-time college obligations with strange study/class hours (average 18 hrs per semester, 400~500 level classes), unpredictable off-hour community service obligations, blocks left open for near-future lab work, etc.

I forgot:

Possible Avenues-of-Approach (so far un-attempted)
-ceramics/glass (no kiln.. possibly oven?)
-remote controlled lawnmower (though lawn "challenged")
-Xtreme!!!1! quilting or something
-some kind of job that I haven't been able to find (must have flexible hours and not require brain activity/taskings that would pull me away from my studies)  i.e. - The Great White Buffalo   *said in whisper voice*
-miniature clock work/watches
-egg shell carving (I have a few ostrich eggs for this purpose, already... maybe a bad sign for sustainability)
-more hours in the gym weekly, with "enhancements" this time
-???
-writing stuff that no one will ever read then ending it all (Hemingway style)
-pretending I've created life in an unrecognizable dimension, and that I'm its cold but merciful ruler   :dunno_black:
-building a trebuchet to launch cats back over my neighbor's fence

Maybe I've become so awesome that I've exhausted everything.  Is this possible?
Perhaps every suburban townhouse development contains a tiny black hole; a life-sucking vortex of boredom, opulence, squashed-flat couch cushions, and empty bottles of Jergens Ultra-Moisturizing.

Yesterday, I bought a 5 lb bag of candy, just to see if I could eat it all in 1/2 an hour.  And I did.
Rock bottom sucks.  I need help.

How large is your AOR and do you have time restrictions (day, night, weekdays)?

Typical guerrilla AOR ~ close-quarter, and tied to supply-chain limitations.  Moderate distance reaches on occasion, and unsustainable.  Requires moderate to considerable increase in operations tempo, if only in troop morale.  (Psych profiles are sketchy at best.)
Neighboring state invasions possible, though unlikely.  Local territories are well under attack.

Weekday time restrictions, as stated in previous intel dump.

Edit:
I said no fishing, cause I suck at it and I refuse to buy a license to barely catch panfish.
But, I've been thinking of something like this:

If I ever get knobbies on the Versys, I could find some private little ponds or something.
Not sure what I'd do for now, though.

Propane fueled "no engine" single person helicopter?  :woohoo:
Figure out the resonant frequency circuit to use Tesla's "radiant energy" as a viable power source for homes and automobiles?
Have a few ribs removed so you can "go down" on yourself?  :dunno_black:
See how much "shut up, free stuff" you can get from corporations and public entities by telling them how much you think they are the devil and bad for our society?  :whisper:

Well, that's all I have for now.. if I think of more I'll be sure to let you know.

(Edit:  Diablo II?  :icon_twisted:)  I Actually stopped playing again.. it got blah.

While it is true you no longer have spare time... I DO NOT Recommend this as a cure for boredom..
