Title: Headlights
Post by: rock_rebel on August 03, 2010, 07:30:57 PM
Looking for a new headlight. Other than getting a stock light somewhere are there any ones you'd recommend? Something less than $150, and that would include shipping. I've seen some nice ones on ebay, but I'm just fearful of paying that much for something and it being a disappointment.

If you are thinking about going for something a little sportier ebay has a few options:
http://shop.ebay.ca/?_from=R40&_trksid=m570&_nkw=Suzuki+SV650S+SV1000S+Head+light+StreetFighter+SV650+SV

A little modifaction required, but I think you just need to purchase a set of brackets.
I bought one a week ago and just anxiously waiting for it to come in.

Good luck

I think I found the one! It will require that I spray paint some of the plastic yellow, but I'm up for the task  :D Here's the original:

Here's what I came up with. I can't decide between the three. Let me know what you think!

Excuse my rough MS paint jobs. Needed too straight of a hand!

The mounting hardware comes with the kit, but do you think I'd need to get a universal set? Thanks!

I like the last version best.  The second one is boring and the first one looks too much like girl's eyelashes.
As it comes with the mounting kit, I wouldn't rush getting a universal one.

I have to agree with the last pic; post some pics when you are done.

That's the one I wanted, but in a yellow color. Unfortunately it's a bit out of reach money wise :( If I have to get a paint match with the spray paint that will be an extra $20 added to the total. I don't think I need brackets as they're included.

I had the same headlight 2 years ago except it was ACERBIS brand (which is what that is a copy of) and it was terrible. The spiderweb of wires turned me off and the fact that its rubber mounted will make you mad at night when the light is bouncing everywhere.

If you do get it I say paint the whole thing yellow leave the windscreen black and leave the recessed parts around the lights black.

and the big question for me would be....

do any of these cheap a$$ed funky headlights actually work worth a f*ck at night?

will you see that deer/possum/raccoon/dog/rat...big friggin rat   at night running towards you?

I don't think I'll bother getting this headlight as it might not be bright enough to use at night. A stock headlight is hard to find which is why I'm looking for some good alternatives that aren't expensive.

Made some phone calls to some parts dealers here and this is all I could come up with:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/1982-1983-Yamaha-Virago-922-Headlight-Casing-/260651190750?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories#ht_500wt_1154

It's a headlight bucket from an old Yahama Virago. I'm being sold both the headlight and bucket, and the guy said that this should fit the GS500, as an after market headlight is pretty much the same design. Both are being sold for $55. Would this bucket fit?

this might work a little better....

the one you picked will require different mounts.....  brackets that you will have to make all by yourself

square... for a buck

What sort of mounts? Headlight replacement is getting really confusing to me.

i personally think that yellow stripey paint job will look like crap, but that's just personal preference.

I think I might put the fairings back on because I'm getting really frustrated with trying to source a new headlight. I can get a headlight anywhere but then I need the right brackets, or they need to be custom made, and I think this is far too much work for something as simple as a stock headlight swap. I can't even find an after market light with brackets included for less than $100.

welcome to the world of owning a turd with little aftermarket support.

also the world of     sucks being a cheap azz

if you make it,  it will fit

what are you doing?   converting a F to an E?

Yes I'm doing an F to E conversion, but even the headlight brackets are hard to find.
