Title: 3000 rpm idle?
Post by: LetsBeFriends on August 12, 2010, 12:28:51 PM
I noticed the other day that when the bike is warmed up but not yet ridden, it idles at about 1200 rpm, however once i go out and run around for a while i will come to a stop light, and unless i engage 1st gear a little bit after i have come to a stop, the engine will keep its self at around 3000 rpms, after about 30 seconds it will eventually start to fall but it will never go below 1800 rpms.                        Any thoughts???

hanging idle. it's all over the faq and this forum. possible issues are generally the following, in no particular order:

adjust idle
check for vacuum leak (rubber boots tend to crack if they are old or left long periods of time outside)
check valve clearances
check throttle cable alignment

It's unlikely that it's actually "warmed up" if you haven't ridden it anywhere yet.

Go ride for 10 or 20 minutes, then adjust the idle.
