I'm running on a Avon Viper front and a Metzeler Z2 rear, 3rd front and 2nd rear on this bike, and desperately need to install new tires, so I bought the BT090s (110 & 140) wishing they were tubeless. No luck, they are tube-type. So I just went to the workshop to ask what kind of tubes I need, and the guy, a very experienced one, told me it's possible to install the TT BT090s with no tubes. My rims remain stock.
I know most guys will tell it's insane, I myself think that. What I need, is the experience of those out of the pack who have done TT tires with no tube. The TT BT090s lips look no different than the old Metzeler Z4's I removed the last time, so I wonder if TT tires will seal OK.
By the way, the Avon Viper is a great tire with better performance in dry and wet than the Z4 it replaced. The current rear, the Z2, lasted at least 15K but may be close to 20K, however not as sticky as the Viper on the wet. The Viper lasted 10-12K.
Any Insights are welcome...
ill bet it will fit/function fine but the rubber may be porous and they may require frequent filling.
Hey there,
This is IMPORTANT.
DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NO, USE TUBE TYPE TIRES WITHOUT TUBES!!!!!
You can use tube-type tires on your rims, but only if you fit TUBES.
Safety is the key here.
A tube-type tire is not designed with the same beads as a TUBELESS tire.
Don't do it, for your own personal safety.
You may not get a second chance.
Just be safe, put in tubes, and next time, be sure to order tubeless tires when they care called for.
Be careful out there.
Best wishes,
Trwhouse :)
You can put a tube in any type of tire.
You can put any type of tire on a tube type rim, but you must use a tube.
You can put any type of tire on a tubeless type rim, but if the tire is a tube type, you must use a tube.
The construction is different. Tubeless tires are stiffer and are not porous.
You'll force more air through the tube tire; I would worry about it weakening.
Hi you all, thanks for your inputs, for everyone's peace of mind: the tires were mounted with tubes, once the mechanic saw the tires he doubted the set up with no tubes would work and checked the tires info and decided to go the proper route... I only rode 10 miles with them and don't know if they aren't well inflated, but the bike feels funny... Will tell more as soon as I can check everything.
