Title: Could it be THAT Cold Blooded...?
Post by: royced57 on August 16, 2010, 06:25:37 AM
Got my '93 GS in July and rode it in sub 70 degree F. temp (about 63) commuting to work this morning.  All surface streets - nothing over 45mph.

Would not idle even with full choke when I started it up.  This has never happened before.  Stalled at every intersection or every time I let off the throttle.  No and I mean NO low end power at all.  I gave it tons of throttle up a couple of hills from a dead stop and it barely go going.  Much better power at 4-5K rpm.

After my 10 mile trip, it did barely maintain an idle in the parking lot.  I turned up the idle setting to a little over 1200 and it seemed to be running normally again.  I didn't ride it though as I had to get into work.

So... is this really about a 10 degree variance in temp or is there something else going on.

I've not have any problem with the engine from top to bottom until now.  I did switch from main to reserve a few weeks ago, and had to run some crap out of the line - was fuel starved but went away after I revved it up pretty forcefully.  But the problem I'm having now is not like that at all.  No missing because of lack of fuel, just now power.

Any ideas out there.  I'll post again after I ride it home.  It's going to be in the mid 80's.  I'll be curious to see how she does..

It's not the temperature.

You can ride these fine in below freezing weather.

Yeah, what he said. Something else is going on.  You say there was trash in the line.... That went somewhere. Did you drain it into a pan?  If not, it is probably in your pilot jets.

What do you have it set to Normally idle at?
