Title: Carb issues! Bowls full, dry plugs
Post by: skirecs on August 18, 2010, 08:29:35 PM
Got a 89 with 14k

Went for a ride, filled up, cruised around for about half an hour and it was running fine. Came home and shut it off and went out again maybe 2 hours later.

Started fine with no choke, went maybe 200m up the road and it was bogging down if I went above half throttle, maybe I wasn't warmed up fully and then it stalled and wouldn't restart.

The bowls drain gas, I cranked it today for maybe 5-10 seconds and pulled the plugs. They spark well, light brown and dry as a bone.

I had cleaned the carbs after it stalled and they are pretty clear, I don't know what would prevent ANY gas getting in.

maybe I have some hoses routed wrongly? It seems really difficult to get them going the right places, the airbox makes everything so tight. I have some pod filters coming and that will make this a lot easier hopefully, but until then are there any things that prevent any gas getting into the cylinder if its in the bowl?

clogged jets.  Make sure you didn't know any of the lines off the carbs.  i knocked the vacuum line off once when I took the carbs out.

So now at idle I get some surging or pulsing at idle. The rpm doesn't change much but i can see and feel and hear the slide jumping up and down, is that normal and will it wear or tear the diaphragm?

Slides should be smooth, perhaps your piston guides worn? also fuel tank cap vent if blocked will cause a vacuem, check by test ride with cap undone. Did you put the little o ring in the carb top?
