Title: Cover Questions
Post by: james311 on August 19, 2010, 06:37:56 AM
My right side cover came off and I figure I can clean it off, straighten it out and put it back on.

I have a few questions about what I should do:

Is this a good epoxy to use?  It says "not recommended for temperatures over 250 degrees", no problem, right?

Do I need to replace the cover? Or is the one I have fine after cleaning/straightening

I used automotive goo for my custom one and have had no issues for 4 years now.

That epoxy will be fine, I used something similar to fix mine. My cover was in bad shape, so I laid up some carbon fibre/epoxy using a saucer for a mould and glued that in.

Should I make sure this is 100% sealed up tight?

completely sealed isnt really an issue, I haven't had a cover on mine for over 2 years, and have ridden in rain you could barely see in

Thats good to hear,

Going to be sealing it up to the best of my abilities tomorrow.

I'll check back in this thread tomorrow before I start.

The area behind that cover is open to the atmosphere anyway, IIRC via a small opening at the bottom rear, just under the cover. You just need to keep most of the rain out!
