Title: Rear wheel swap
Post by: rock_rebel on August 22, 2010, 09:46:35 AM
What is the easiest way to put a 150 rear wheel on the GS? Is there any real benefit to using a bigger tire, and what modifications are needed? Thanks!

I should be able to get the torque arm bent at a machine shop right?

Or you could just put it in a vice and hit it with a hammer a few times like most people.

That sounds like a better idea. Do I need to add some washers to the wheel as well to get it to balance correctly?

Is  Katana wheel the same as a Bandit 400 wheel? I tried it with a bandit wheel and the cuesh drive didn't fit flush. is is that way with the katana wheel?

Why don't you check this post in the FAQ section:

http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=25426.0

It speaks extensively about katana rim swap, with pictures... As long as I remember, Bandit 400 and Katana wheels are slightly different, but can't tell the differences.

The SV650 rear wheel from the same period is identical to the katana wheel....usually easier to find.

I used a 150 tire on a stock 04 rim with no mods what so ever only made it a few MM wider than the stock but still looked great and felt great just make sure the sidwall is not too tall.

Are there any real advantages to using a wider tire?

They look better and last longer.  A larger choice of available tire types like sport touring and supersport radials are available in 150 wide tires.  I'm running my third 150/70 tire on GS rims and like that size.
