Hi All,
I'm new here and a happy new owner of a used 2004 Suzuki GS500F. It's my first bike ever and am happy I chose it to de-virginize me in motorcycling. I just bought the bike 4 days ago and been riding it for the last 3 days. There was already fuel in it when I bought it. Well I ran out of fuel in the middle of the road today. As soon as I feel that I'm running out of fuel can I just switch it to reserve as I'm moving or do I need to stop and switch it?
You can switch it while your moving, just be careful, practice turning the petcock with out looking, so you dont look down and drift to the side.
Next time you fill it up, reset the trip odometer, when you have to switch to reserve, take notice how many mile to took, next time fill up a few miles early so you dont get stuck somewhere
Congrats on the new bike
Dave
I got in the habit of just refilling every 100 miles. Much easier than having to start looking for a gas station once the reserve hits, not to mention the time you forget to turn it back to ON and run out to realize you're already on reserve...
I just keep mine on reserve and start looking for a gas station after 100 miles. The whole switching while rolling is stupid to me.
