Title: Cracked fairing(s) quick fix
Post by: rock_rebel on August 29, 2010, 01:21:53 PM
The first time I fell from my bike I cracked all the little plastic connectors the left side of the rear cowling. Left it as is for about a year, thinking I would have had to get it repaired somewhere, then I came across this type of superglue that works for most plastics, including ABS. I bought a bottle of Loctite superglue at Home Depot for around $7. Applied the glue and let it set overnight. It's pretty solid, but definitely won't survive another fall, but it's a solution to someone who just wants it fixed rather than have it hanging there. I'll probably get a new side cowl in the future, but for now the super glue works great!

On dial up at the moment  but I'll post some pics later this week when I have a decent internet connection.

I fixed a CD carriage and a cd motor hat as well as other similar items with this stuff and I call it permanent @ this point netween exact fitting pieces.
This 2 part super glue comes as a marker with a clean/prep/catalyst - great idea IMHO, and you scribble on both surfaces with it.
Then wait a minute, and put a little super glue on 1 face.
Press together for 30 seconds.
Done. I fixed a cd drive carriage and its holding after a few 100 cd's ad the break was in the teeth in the rack of the rack and pinion type set.
Cool.

I used the same thing and it's great! With some force the glue will break but you really need to mess with it. Otherwise it's pretty solid.
