Title: more gauge questions
Post by: aaronbaker33 on August 29, 2010, 02:05:07 PM
just wondering if it was possible to use the newer sv650s gauges or gsxr style digital gauges.  money is not a problem and i love to tinker.  just wondering if anyone has ever tried before

if moneys not a problem then get a newer sv650 or gixxer and put the gs500 gas cap on it then youll have the power to go with the cool gauges. :thumb:

ive got a 2008 gsxr 600.  been fixin up my gs for my girl.  she just hates the gauges.  was just gonna do the 1st gen sv650s gauge swap, but she's all about a digital speedo, and i dont like veypors.

Probably easier to swap the girl than the gauges. :icon_twisted:

You didn`t say what year Gs it is,i don`t like my 89E clocks thinking about changing them for k model 02 clocks with white faces, think after 04 the tach changed to electronic.

its a 2006 gs500f.  tachs electric....pretty sure the gsxr pulls the speed from the sprocket instead of the wheel, but their has to be a workaround

there is a workaround for the newer sv gauges where you use a hall effect sensor and magnets on the brake rotor.  do a search for it on www.svrider.com  should be adaptable to the gsxr gauges you already have

what about just swapping to a gsxr front end, with gsxr speed sensor?

All factory digital GSXR and similar speedometers use a speed signal generated at the front sprocket. This is different that the SV which gets it from the front wheel. The time between pulses are different, which is what the speed is calculated. Figure out how to alter the timing of the pulses and it will work. The electrical tach is easy to hookup.

One of my SV gauge swaps use a GSXR sensor but mounted at the front wheel, this is also a GSXR front end swap. The other uses an SV sensor modified to fit the front axle, which is a Kat front end swap.

The speed pickup on the gsxr front sprocket ought to transplant with some "tinkering", why not swap it onto the gs500 front sprocket and fiddle with sprocket ratios and tire diameters until its accurate enough?

if your going to go that far, just use a speedo healer to get the speedo right.  there are far easier alternatives
