Title: New Guy
Post by: Poorboy on August 31, 2010, 08:24:18 PM
High New GS500e owner from warren county Missouri.

Picked up the gs yesterday as a learner for my wife. I ride a Honda 919 but will probably thrash around on this little thing to I'd imagine it gets a little better gas mileage than mine does. This thing is almost to easy to work on.

Figured I'd introduce my self. Names Charlie.

Till later keep the rubber side down.

very easy bike to learn on.

My wife took my GS a month ago.

She is doing well except for dropping it 3 times when coming to a stop. (she would plant her feet firmly on the ground, looking down at the tank, and take her weight off the bike.... but didn't bring the bike to a complete stop. It was unpleasant to see)

i was first to say welcome, count it. i just want that on record. yea pics of the bike, dont sweat a mess man, if someone gives crap for a messy garage its only cause his is worse and hes trying to make it look like hes super organized.....or his place actually is really clean and hes just being a duck.

Almost back together. Sorry didn't get picks when it was almost bare frame and engine. I wanted it done. We wanted to RIDE. Rebuilt the Fork's rebuilt the carbs and Upped the pilots to 40's and mains to 125's and adjusted the needles. Runs a lot better. Installed a clutch from an SV650. Coulkdn't find a full kit for a GS500 so went Sv650 and did half and half springs so it's easier to pull the clutch in. Greased every thing and I mean everything Gave the brakes a flush. Pulled the cover to see what's going on it will need a valve adjustment in the winter what size shims do these use? Please say 9.5mm I have a ton of those. Long long list of other things that got done.

i took Her for a test ride before I let My wife loose. I Know how to dump a bike if need be she doesn't very well. I like that little thing. Not hte power of mine but light and nimble. although it's a bit compact for my 6 foot 250bls frame. I like the Tq curve broad and flat. I also like that getting back on My 9er feels like I like a whole new bike. Not dissin the GS just saying you don't appreciate what ya got some times till you try a down grade. I love the sound of that twin motor makes me wanna trade the 9er for a Buell even more. Just which one xb12 lightning or 1125r?

My 919 it's a little dirty It got rained on.

MY Wife's other ride. More CC's More Hp and TQ, Less weight and more wheels. Her's is also the only quad running. If any one's interested I can elaborate on that later. )-80 agaisnt her GS it's no contest though. She won't top it out on pavement it gets way to squirrely. YEs it's dirty as hell. It gets around.

All Geared up and ready to go. She dropped it a just a minute before we got a pick of her one it. Our drive way is not bike friendly hell Her 2 wheel drive truck with the locker hiding in the back ground don't like it either. Not the one with 20's that a junker I bought for the motor and trans gotta get those hunks of shiny metal back to the guy I got it from. I don't like big ugly wheels that destroy handling, ride and performance.

I have way to many  Projects on the shelves. There is a 450R motor on there plus 3 heads and three FCR carbs for said motor well and the wife's you saw. Plus the 2 old carbs. Not to mention the makings of half another motor. And My poor DS650 motor waiting on it's Head to come home.

If any one is intrested on those shelves sits the making of a TRX542r Motor I have decide My TRX Is going to grow a few more cylinders. I'll make some one a hell of a deal

Seriously 29.5 that's close to what my DS used to use I converted it to 9.5's so it used the same As the honda quads. I beleive it used 31mm and a kit of 5 sizs with 2 of each size was 90 some odd dollars I have a kit of 9.5's with sizes from 1.35 to 3.95 with 4 of each size in .045 increments for less.
