I usually remember, but between the bright sunlight and the GPS, the indicator on the dash is useless. I found the thread on adding a piezoelectric buzzer. It seemed simple enough, so I went to Radio shack, bought a buzzer, a bridge rectifier, wired the rectifier to the two hot leads under the seat for the rear signals, wired it to the buzzer, made sure it worked, and went riding today.
well, the people in front of me and behind me heard the buzzer, but the only time I heard it was when I was stopped. Must be the full face helmet and earplugs, and it being under the seat. My friends got a laugh out of that.
Scratch that idea. Instead, i moved it forward, bought a small bright red panel light from the shack, mounted it at the base of the windshield and wired the rectifier to the hot leads from the front signals. will test it tomorrow to see if I notice it at all. at least I was smart enough not to cut any wires and attach the light to the rectifier with bullet connectors. If I ned a brighter lamp or want to try the buzzer in the front I can do that without too much trouble.
My solution for remembering to turn off my signals is to hit cancel everytime I shift (or atleast I try to)...and anytime I can't remember turning them off, I hit cancel...I'm sure I still have times that I forget :cookoo:, but they should be greatly reduced...I can't see the indicator lights in my periferal vision, so I only see them if I look at the speedo or check the light...and it is sometimes covered by my keychain... :confused:

Gawd, yes, indicators...I remember with a cold chill how, on maybe the third or fourth time out on the GS, I blithely rode thru an intersection - past stopped but about to turn cars - with my left hand indicators blinking! The horror! The luck!
I hit the signal cancel button constantly. It's just habit now to hit it every time I accelerate out of a turn or intersection. I haven't left it on on occasion, but nothing too bad. My dad's sportster has an auto shut off that just turns the signal off after a few seconds. That might be another option for you, but I'd just make a habit out of hitting the button more often.
I duplicated all indicators in the fairing. Also put in a left and right turn signal.
There was no special work required. Buy snap in super bright LEDs (Fry's, RS, etc) that are already made for 12v. You simply use a splice and parallel them with your existing indicators and the left & right turn signals. I like having an indicator for left & right.

These just popped into a 9/16 hole. Easy to drill in the plastic. Here you see the LEFT turn signal pictured when it was ON. You can see the right turn signal LED is off. Center are the oil, neutral and high beam. Then add another LED you can see when you take the key out. Wire it in parallel with the front parking light. Now I can see I accidentally put the bike in park when I take the key out: that extra LED I can't miss!

Ditto on OCD on constantly pushing the off/cancel button.
Five minutes after hitting the highway I am still intermittently hitting the cancel button. Never can be too sure. :icon_mrgreen:

I basically almost never use my signals.. unless I really feel like the people around me need to know what I'm doing.. (I Ride like I'm invisible anyway..) Or if there is cops around I will use them. I constantly leave the little buggers on if/when I do use them... probably worse than not using them IMO.

It is common knowlege that "old people" always drive along for miles with the directional on.......

i find i notice the indicator just fine at night, but i tend to forget it and leave my blinker on a lot longer during the day in the sun. whoops. i'm getting better at it though, now that i'm thinking about shifting as much.
