Hello againn.
Well I have been thinking about making this topic for a long time now so here it is! This is my 06 GS500 mod topic. This will show my GS500 transform from stock to my own GS that I can say I spent and invested a lot of time in and be proud of it :thumb:. Also I will use this topic when I need to ask questions if I'm unsure on something or just want everyone's opinions, I'm sure this will also come in handy in the future sometime for anyone else looking to do these things to there GS.
Photos to come once I get my camera and cable stuff sorted out.
List of current mods:
Replaced stock exhaust with a slip on Screaming Demon SDR Exhaust.

Cut down rear mudguard and tidied up rear end also replaced indicators with LED ones.

After:

Future Mods:
Replace rear tyre with a 150.
Replace stock instrument LED's with Blue ones.
K&N Lunchbox Air Filter.
Full Exhaust system.
Ignition advancer.
Dyno Jet Kit.
And more to come...
Ok so question 1:
I want to replace the LED's in my instrument cluster to blue ones, can I do this my self or do I need to solder a few things (never soldered anything in my life)? Please explain with step by step instructions, pictures or a link anything that will help me :thumb:

thanks for reading and I look forward to showing everyone my progress !
Mark.
Check out www.superbrightleds.com for blue led bulbs.
Don't do the dynojet, just get the correct size OEM jets from Buddha.
If you already added an exhaust, you should probably rejet and lunchbox pretty soon, because you're probably running pretty lean.

+1 dynojet isnt worth it. buddha will set you up with the correct sizes
EDIT: plus hes cheaper, i think dynojet is like 40 bucks or so
*UPDATED WITH PICS.*
Will get into contact with buddha about the dyno jets. :thumb: K&N Airfilter and new rear tyre this weekend hopefully.
I have a few spare jets, 20 Pilots, and 62.5 mids lying around from when I did my bike, if you are looking for those sizes I can help out.
yeah i got 145's if ya need em...
You should be fine for now running the exhaust with the stock jets as long as you leave the stock air filter in there. The original air filter will keep the air flow down some even with the exhaust on. I'd definitely wait until you get the jets before you put your filter in though.
Bike looks great by the way. That's a really good looking exhaust. It's nice to see so many options after only having V&H and Jardine to chose between for so long.
is that a full system or just the can?
Looks good, I just trimmed up my fender as well :thumb:
And I must say, I used a DynoJet kit on my twin and never had a single problem out of it. I was pleased with it, others suggest against it. It's probably safer to jump on the bandwagon.

Thanks mate :thumb: Got it of eBay for $398 shipped. Adds a nice deep rumble to her well worth the money.

I also gave mine a fender chop as well. Trusty old Stanley knife ;)
I didnt want to bugger around with LEDs so I just bought some blinkers that came with front and rear sets off of Ebay for $22. I went with an LED tail light though.

nice choice of can twisted :thumb: yeah i gave it to my local mechanic and he tuned it to suit the carby cost about 200 bucks, and i love the sound it makes especially from 8000 rpm up :thumb:
keep up with the mods !
I also have some Dominator twin headlights fitted, flat bars and bar end mirrors. Keep us posted with any further mods for yours. It is always interesting to see how others do up their bikes, especially a fellow Aussie. Ride safe ;)
(Excuse all the spaghetti below the headlights, it was just after I had installed the blinkers so I had not yet fixed all the wiring lol.)

I'm liking those handlebars, do they make you lean forward anymore to ride the bike or are you pretty much still sitting up?
You sit a little more forward but it is like an inch or two difference off stock so you are basically still upright. Depending on your height it should be no drama. I found it easier to corner with this bars on. The cool part about these bars is there is a slight rake in them so they are not completely straight. They clear the tank, so no issues there. Only issue is installing them as the GS's brick of a brake reservoir just fits in between the tacho and right hand grip. It takes a bit of fiddling to find the sweet spot but other than that no dramas.
Good to see someone doing something downunder I am in Auckland NZ
I am after some fairing parts do you have the lower half and are you willing to sell?
Where did you get the frame bungs from?
Cheers
Sorry SparkzZ. Total thread hijack here lol. :tongue2:
@birdhandler - I posted a link for some on Ebay here in Oz in your post in the for sale section. Are they what you were chasing?
