Post by: LLrain710 on October 31, 2003, 09:25:54 AM
Hey,
Im sure this has been covered and covered but i cant get the info i need with what im searching for so im gonna have to ask again, sorry.   Anyway, the ole bikes not running right now and im assuming its a carbs/fuel issue because the bike sat for awhile before i bought it.  Anyway, i have the manual and am ready to take on the task of cleaning the carbs, but i need to know how exactly and with what to clean them with.  Any info would be great..... Help me get her running again!!!

I like yamaha carb cleaner. Basically take off the tank, drain your carbs and mix up some of it in a bottle (as per the instructions on the bottle) and fill your carbs with it. I use a radiator overflow tank and some hoses available at auto parts stores.
Cool.

or go to your autoparts store and get a can of Carb cleaner spray.  (big can like $2)  spray every orafice, and surrounding area,  get all the junk off of there.

The spray kind works only if the carbs are apart and there is air flow to the parts. The yamaha carb cleaner works only in parts that have fuel sitting in them, making it ideal for bikes that sat for a while and got carbs caked up from dried fuel. Spray stuff works best on carbs that were ridden in dirt and dust or with a very dirty filter. Frankly if you take carbs off and apart... either will work, and heck just plain washing in gas will work.
Cool.
