Has anyone done this before, or just shelled out the $200 for factory ones? I want to make my own because even if these bars are $150 that's still too much for me, and the cost to ship to Canada is ridiculous. The economy must still be bad in the US, no? It's bad here too but that's a rant I'll save for elsewhere.
Anyone want to sell a pair, $40-$50? Otherwise I might get a friend of mine to weld some bars, or I'll go to a machine shop to get it done. Anything cheaper than $150, that's for sure.
I have thought about making my own as well. I really don't think it would be too hard to do. Making them match would be the trick but since the last time they will be side by side would be on the bench while you are making them so it would be hard to see minor diff between them. It seems that you could adjust the spacing of the mount by where you drill the holes for the bolts. I would be interested in see what you come up with or if I beat you to it I will post up pics. Good luck......post progress if you decide to do it.

I'm going to check at a machine shop for some metal rods thick enough to be welded. Bending might be an issue. Heat gun maybe?
Man, you and I may be on a diff page. If you are able to bend this with a heat gun I don't think you will have the case protection you are looking for. I was thinking about some 3/4" round stock and a torch.
I have so many projects this one is way down on the list.
you guys might want to PM ecpreston and ask him about it, as he made some crash bars before.
Might do that. Thanks
Crash Bars/Case Savers
1. Buddha has had a series of posts about case savers on the forum. Well worth a look.
