Title: Bought a new bike, can't bear to sell the GS
Post by: elader on September 20, 2010, 05:39:32 PM
Its like your first love, right? Small, light, energetic...

Put 6K miles on the GS500F in 4 months. Wife bought me my dream bike on Sunday for my 50th, a Yamaha FJR1300A. It'll be a heck of a change, but I am hoping to still ride the GS on my daily commute of 50 miles of back roads.

And I just upgraded the fork springs and am loving the progressives. At worst, I'll ride it until spring and sell it to the next newbie rider.

Yeah I know what you mean. I need a newer more touring specific bike. But I can't see getting rid of the GS.

I was thinking of auditioning some other bikes for next riding season, but I realized the GS is still perfectly fun, so why switch?

A small windscreen would be a nice addition at some point, though...

I have been doing ~150 mile rides on the GS. It's about my limit on the bike. I am looking forward to longer trips with luggage on the superslab on the Yamaha. The insurance on the GS is 100$USD per year, so it's like free. As long as I can find the time to ride it, I think it's worth keeping.
