Title: Gs500e has difficulty turning the crank on a cold start and then drains my batte
Post by: wbmassel on September 22, 2010, 10:59:31 AM
if my motor is warm or the weather is extremely hot i have no problem starting the bike, when the motor is cold or the weather average and the battery fully charged i will hear a clicking noise but not from the starter relay, from the motor itself, it is as if it has difficulty because of too much pressure on the pistons, i then have to try a few more times until it starts or if it drained my battery i have to push start it, sometimes on a flat surface it push starts without a problem and sometimes the wheel itself skids depends on how rough the road is because it is normally me running next to the bike in order to start it

What do you mean by "clicking noise"?  Is the engine turning over, but just not starting?  Is your choke working?  Is your bike jetted incredibly lean?  How old is your gas?

I'm with Faulty Battery.

Have you tried jump starting the bike from a car's battery?
Have you tested the battery?
How do you know it is fully charged?

Even if it's a little tough to start, i feel like it might be a battery problem as well. Your battery shouldn't drain that fast. My bike is iffy sometimes, but i've never started with a charged battery and had it drain before i could get the bike started, even if I've been outside hitting the starter for 5 minutes straight. Try turning up the idle slightly if you have to.

Do you have anything electrical added on to your bike? What kind of battery is it? Is it a cheap battery?  My friend had the same problem, he had some led light kits, an HID headlight and some heated grips on his bike but he had a cheap wal-mart battery. His battery didnt alot of cold cranking amps, so when he started cold in the morning, it took alot of amps to start his bike and he would constantly kill his battery. He found out that is was a weak battery so he bought a better battery with more cranking amps and he never had that problem again.

I had a cheapo cycle gear battery, wouldnt start the bike if it was in the 50s. if a car battery can jump it no problem(vehicle off), it is the battery for sure.

keep on bump starting it and run faster weakling... jk i gained leg muscle from bump starting all summer lol.

I had this exact same problem with my bike this winter. The engine would crank over then the clicking noise after a few cranks. Once I jump started the bike and it was warm I had no trouble starting the bike. It eventually deteriorated though to the point it wouldn't start even when warm. It was just an old battery that wouldn't hold much charge in my case. A new one fixed it right away.

I've had this problem also for over a year, mine was always too low voltage, but after adding just a little bit of fresh battery acid, it works like new. At least for the last 5 days, we'll see how long it lasts, I have a new battery from walmart ready to go.

good people, i found the problem just letting you all know what it was,

some stupid idiot before me did work on the crank and put thick bearings on between the one conrod and the crank, it would turn but was hard to get going, that is what caused it to struggle to start, i had to replace the crank because he ruined the crank and there was no suitable suzuki bearing, so he put some other bearing on that i have no idea where he found it.
