New rider here (just picked up a 1996 GS500e with <3,500 miles). I've had a rough start, so far -- lost my license plates three days in and now have the bike at the shop to get the carbs cleaned. But, I should get a replacement plate this weekend and the shop will be done "early next week," so I should be back on the road soon.
Anyway, anyone else in the area to go ride with on a weekend sometime?
couple of meetup groups in the area. Go to meetup.com and put in your zip code, or try these folks @meetup.
The Central Maryland Motorcycle Riders
There are several of us in the DC/Baltimore area. I don't have any rides planned yet but when the leaves start to change would be a good time to hit Skyline Drive.

That would be awesome. One of my favorite memories is driving along Skyline Drive during a thunderstorm while my father played 'The 1812 Overture' on the 8-track player in our big old metal-box Dodge van.
Do you think the Skyline Drive would be OK for a beginner? What are the best rides around DMV for beginners?
skyline drive is not too difficult for newbies. just keep your speed in check and watch out for hikers and other cars pulling off at the lookouts.
i live in Centreville VA, so not too far away from the DC area.
Skyline drive is nice and begginner freindly as it is not very fast. Now the roads going up and down the mountain on the other hand can be quite exilarating :)
I am up for some group rides anytime also!

Sweet. We should definitely gather some people together. Unfortunately, my bike's having some problems now (leaking oil, hesitation in lower gears), so I need to do some work on it. Hopefully, it's just a matter of an oil change and some seafoam. I just gotta find a place to do the work (tough to do it in the streets of DC!).
Hi everybody,
I just wanted to inform/remind everyone on the board that I moved to Haymarket, VA last year. It is just about half way between DC and Skyline Drive, and makes a nice place for everyone to gather and stretch your legs on the way out/back from the park. When the weather improves in the springtime, I would definitely be interested in organizing a Skyline Drive meet up.
Hi.
I just got a 2004 GS500F and have started learning to ride it. Loving it so far.
Maybe by the time it heats up, I'll be ready to meet up for a noob ride. I play a lot of baseball (over 35 league) on the weekends though, but I'd like to see what group rides are like to cool places.
