Hey, so I've been reading motorcycle forums for years now and recently have started the process to get into it. I completed the MSF course last weekend and bought an 05 gs500f. Got it for $2100 with 3.8k miles on it, in beautiful condition. Only had a no speed drop and has a a couple scratches on the side of the engine, fairing is fine. It is now my baby, I'm so excited, just waiting to get insurance on it next week and then ill be good to go (already got my gear)!
So I'm just introducing myself, my name is JP, I'm 21 from NJ, and I can't wait to start riding!
Welcome to the site man! Good job on the gear and safety course. And for sure great choice on a first bike. Starting off on the right foot for sure. If you start riding with other people on supersports and decide yours is to slow, don't just trade it in on a GSXR. There's a lot of stuff you can do to wake these things up.
P.S. Shame on you other ten people that looked at this thread and didn't welcome him..
Welcome!
How can someone sell a bike after only riding it for 3.8 miles?
I've put almost that on the bike I just got in June and I feel like I've barely used it yet. Very sad. Good for you though!
It actually says 3.8 k miles. Either way, congrats and welcome!
Welcome - and -
PICS. We want to see PICS of your bike.

Welcome! I too had a drop on my bike but had these installed -

Saved me any damage and paid for themselves with the drop.
Insurance should be instantaneous. When I got my GS500F in May, I called my agent with the VIN number after buying it and it was covered - even though it wasn't going to be delivered to my house until the next day. Maybe NJ is different than WA.
You'll love it! I ride mine every day. I love the GS500 so much that now I have 2: the new F for "formal wear" and the '92 naked one for play.
Have fun, ride safe and play the picture game!

welcome to the forum, i also got my bike over the summer in july, gotta say its crazy fun riding around on it.. hoping to make it a commuter a bike to work once i get a little more experience riding on the highways... where in NJ are you?
I was going to post the pictures I took with my cellphone but I can't find the darn memory card to USB adapter right now.
O well, anyway I'm from Cranford NJ but I go to school in Ewing
Welcome to the site! Like the others have been saying you'll definitely enjoy the GS, great for commuting, but still has some power when you need the fun. Ride safe!

Just to let you know if you use photobucket, you can text the pics straight to your account.
I was able to find my USB adapter so here she is, in all her cellphone camera glory!

My cell phone camera loves to take crappy photos with the slightest movement

Now I bought it from a guy on craigslist, he was the 2nd owner, he had gotten it used from a dealer. So I'm trying to now find out what mods were done to it. There are clear handgrips with the GSXR logo on them, those are going to be replaced asap. Flush front blinkers and small LED (i think) blinkers for the back, excited I got it like this. It would be awesome if the front springs were already replaced but I have not gotten to ride her yet so I can't tell, I doubt it tho.
I'm itching like crazy to get my insurance done with next week and to get on the road, its all I think about in all my classes haha.
I feel like I'll be this little blue guy after my first ride :woohoo:
Congrats! Looks like your windscreen has been tinted. Be careful on the Fall leaves!
Welcome to the forum. You now have the best bike ever. I always get good reviews from FJR and ST riders with mine. Especially when I tell I get 60 mpg and can ride 240 mikes on a tank of regular.
Keep the shiny side up.
Chuck
While you're not riding her, browse all the past postings here. You'll find a bazillion things you can do to personalize her. Bikes always run better when you buy them new things. New grips - good start! Mirror extenders? crash guards? Toe chain guards? Fog lights? New cool bar ends? There's no limit to what you can buy her. The fun is just beginning!

Not sure, bike is actually in a garage 45min from me right now so I can't go look at it to see how it was done.
I see, well when you figure it out, let us know! I want to tint my windscreen with out paying too much.
Well since I won't be able to go up from college to ride my bike until Wednesday or Friday, I've been trying to figure out what's been done to my new bike from the pictures I've taken and the ones that were on craigslist. The ones from craigslist are below.

When I bought the bike a week ago or so I didn't even pick up on all the different mods. So now I'm trying to figure out if the can in the exhaust is stock or slipon, full system, etc. It looks like its got 2 dark stripes where the can attaches to the frame and the pipe is not black, I don't see this on the stock exhaust.
After checking out slipons and exhuasts, it looks like a possible Jardine R1... ::crossing fingers:: haha
Yeah it's not stock. Possible Jardine.
looks like the Jardine RT-1, which is a full system.
