damn!! i can't find my keys anywhere! since this is a fairly new bike i haven't had the time to get a spare, now i'm screwed. i called some local bike shops and they said that i should try to take off the ignition so i can bring it in and get a new key. the locksmith said he needed an id number that is on the lock itself, the VIN number wont cut it. anyone know how hard it is to take off the ignition? or have any other ideas?!

Damn that blows dude. I lost a whole ring of keys (including one of my GS keys) a few weeks ago after a night of drinking. Luckily I still had the other one. The only option i found was to order a blank key from the local Suzuki dealer, EIGHTEEN dollars later, i had my key. Simply put, DON'T LOSE YOUR KEYS! Not very helpful advice for you, granted, but people shouldn't be surprised when they're forking over ridiculous amounts of loot for a sodding key. Make spares while you still can!
i think its been said before but will the key copiers do motorcycle keys? Since they are like, smaller than regular keys? I thought I read that a volvo key would work??

Dude, I hate to say that I went to ACE hardware with my GS key and got two copies for a whopping $4... :?
thats what he's saying, he lost the key entirly, so needed to get one from Suzuki. He couldent copy what he didnt have :?

No idea what to do without any keys... I saw a new ignition with new keys on ebay a few days ago starting bid was about $10 ;)

No place special... I bought the bike, was given only 1 key.
On my way home, I stopped at the currancy exchange to get my title and plates taken care of. Then when that was done, I walked into the ACE hardware store next door to see about how difficult it was going to be for me to get a copy of my single key.
Walked upto the dude in back and asked if they can copy my GS500E key. He took a good look at it, then pulled out a box from under the counter that had tons of blank Suzuki keys. He must of had 10 blanks... He did tear up a few getting it right... Tell them to go really slow when cutting them. He split 3 of them right in half making me copies. took him 5 tries to get me 2 keys. They were about $2 each.. :cheers:
Two important aspects of keys.
Profile and tumbler numbers. Take the cylinder to a Lowes and talk to the hardware guys. They can get the profile with a blank and cut your replacement key by matching the tumblers.
Big Point: Ask for someone who has re-set pins on a tumbler.
I know it's a Buddha Loves You, but it will cost you the low low price of a new key if you hit them when they're slow (6am-10am)

What a major pain for a lile key, bro. Did you buy the bike new, or second hand from someone? If you bought it second hand, and can contact the former owner, MAYBE there's another key hanging around or at least maybe a record of the number code that Suzuki needs to reproduce a copy. Just a thought.
