There should be some screws srond the backside to tighten it up.

Sure it's the ring? Sometimes if the cable needs lubed it will make a sound.

My '09 GS does that too, right around 5,500 rpm. I was going to say something, but thought it was nothing, like engine vibrations just vibrating something.

Take it back to the dealer for them to fix. It's under warranty. Their problem.

Ive had the windshield buzz at 5500.  I ended up getting frustrated and squishing like 20 rubber wedges under the windshield and most of the joints you can see in the plastics.  Made the wedges by cutting up a small rubber washer.  It seems to be keeping the buzz away

Is it related to speed or engine RPMs?
When does it happen?

it doesnt seem to be related to eithier,i hear it only very ocasionally ,once every couple of weeks for a few minuts, because its not their all the time i  find it very hard to get a gauge where it is coming from.can hear it mostly when idling but can hear it with revs ocasionally aswell.its a very buzzy sound sounds like plastic vibrating on plastic ,its deftinatly not engine noise.thanx for your help :technical:

Check all the fairing screws and fasteners - inside and outside. Be sure none are missing.
Since it started after the first service, something is probably loose. They have to take it off to service the engine and may not have tightened everything down.
When it does it, walk around the bike and try to find where its coming from. Touch areas and see if it goes away. Could even be wiring inside the cowling that isn't properly tied down and sometimes it vibrates against the plastic.
Good luck. I bet when it does it again, you put down the side stand and get off to try to locate it and it goes away.
