Title: It's been awhile...and a bee sting
Post by: centuryghost on October 06, 2010, 10:34:51 AM
Hey GS forum!

I've been away for a bit due to fixing up my trucks and just wanted to share my experience last night while riding home from work.

It's a beautiful almost fall evening and I'm riding home enjoying the new Sonic springs I recently installed, so I decide to hit a quiet little road that has a sweet twisty like the one at Laguna. All is well and I'm about to come out of the last turn when I feel this INTENSE pain on my throat! I stop the bike and rub my hand across my neck and see nothing but the pain is crazy! I'm about a mile from home so I hit the throttle pretty hard and get there in about 5mins. I race into the house and look in the mirror to find the STINGER still hanging out of my adam's apple!

It was still stinging long into the night, kinda felt like constant karate chops to the throat! I think it's time for a neck gaitor....

wow what are the chances of driving right into the action end of a bee with your exposed neck.  :icon_eek:

You hit the throttle pretty hard, and rode home at 12mph??? Maybe the pain was throwing off your sense of speed, or time for that matter...  :flipoff:

Sucks about the stinger! anything hitting your neck can hurt pretty bad. Think about how many bugs you smash with the visor of your helmet, it's only a matter of time before you hit one with your neck. I heard a bee inside my helmet once. I definitely freaked out a bit trying to scare it out of my helmet while I was still moving, all while trying to not get stung or crash.

That happened to me year before last riding to the beach on my birthday no less. Mr. bee decides to fly in between my helmet and jacket and got me right on the neck. It swelled up pretty bad but still played at the beach. By the next morning it was about the size of a marble and I could barely move my neck. Went to my doc apparently I'm allergic to them now and the next time might not be so nice.

Right now though the Love Bugs are horrendous. My new visor that I just got off the boards here less than a month ago is scratched yet again from all the bugs. I can't win!

just a note on bee stings .. if you get one anywhere... scratch the stinger out sideways with a fingernail or key etc ... dont grab onto or pinch the little sac bit and pull the sting out .. this will likely pump more poison in..

remember .. SCRATCH THEM OUT SIDEWAYS!!

We get these suckers down here in Australia. They are huge and when they hit you even in riding gear they hurt lol. Scare the shaZam! out of you when one smacks into your helmet. You think someone is shooting at you  :2guns:

i think bear grylls should have caught a cicada and eaten it when he did his aussie show ... that'd make the bugger think twice  :thumb:
