Title: Were there other GS500E models?
Post by: adidasguy on October 07, 2010, 02:39:10 PM
I have been looking for rear sets for my older GS500E. In many of the parts lists from European dealers, they list GS500E's for 1978 and 1981-82 among other years. Then they also list a GS500E for 1989-1991.
I ordered a Tarozzi rear set for GS500E 1989-1991 and there is no way it matches a GS500E. Was there a different GS500E for 1989-1991 in Europe?
Any Suzuki parts list I find lists the GS500E model as 1989-1996 then 1997-2000, and only the F from 2001 on. I do know Europe still had or has an "E" which is the naked version.
Help! Anyone know about models? Anyone from Europe know anything about this?
I've sent an email to Tarozzi with the page from the Suzuki parts list showing the foot rest and am waiting for them to tell me what's going on.
For us, we know the foot rests are the same from 1989 to present except for color. Same for foot brake lever (although lost the rubber on it somewhere along the years) and shifter lever.

I just discovered this regarding the 1978-1982 era, but still nothing to indicate there were different models from 1989-1991

"The gs500e is a sleeved down version of the gs550, and was manufactured for the italian market to take advantage of insurance legislation. overall length: 2,200 mm (86.6 in) overall width: 850 mm (33.5 in) overall height: 1,155 mm (45.5 in) wheelbase: 1,435 mm (56.5 in) dry weight: 200 kg (440 lbs) engine type: air-cooled 486 cc inline-4, dohc, 8 valves. 46 hp."

Here's another site I found with all the parts manuals. Still nothing different from 1989. It does show the European older GS500E's which are the 550. But still 1989 to present all is the same. Anyone know or is Tarozzi wrong in their rear sets for their GS500E 1989-1991 model?

It sounds like you have a set of rear sets for the sleeved down 550,not an 89.Never seen this bike in the UK must just be an for the italion market. They`ve probably been gathering dust for 20 year.

That site, although not showing the 500E in the 1989 list, does give pretty much the same story. In 1989 it changed to what we have now. The 1991 photo is the same, though no photo for 1989. I'm think more and more that Tarozzi has made a mistake unless there was a special GS500E in Italy for 1989-1991.

I wonder if the sleeved down 550 was sold in Italy those years and not the regular GS500E we all know and love?

The rear sets are new. They were ordered from Tarozzi by the dealer in the UK.
