Title: Why do they keep doing this?
Post by: tt_four on October 10, 2010, 06:56:42 PM
They just get uglier, and uglier every year  :dunno_black:

The first picture looks ok, but that side profile is just downright awful. In MY opinion, sportbike styling has just gone downhill since around 2004.

yeah, the side profile does look awful. The problem they're trying to fix (I think) is that the GSXR has looked relatively the same for years and years, but they didn't fix it.

I noticed a lot of the companies are making their naked bike look like streetfighters. Where is the fun in that? Half the fun is customizing it yourself in my opinion. They also seem to be all clones of each other as well.

Some of the naked bikes are pretty ugly, some I'm getting used to. I'm pretty used to the styling on the 2011 Yamaha FZ8, which also happens to be the same exact styling that the FZ1n had for years. They didn't feel the need to mention what kind of HP is makes, so I'm guessing it's nothing worth mentioning(one website said 106hp, so we'll just hope for some serious low end). Hopefully it's not another story of the Z1000 and Z750 where they just sleeved down the Z1 motor to make the Z750 even heavier than than the 1000, and I still don't think it made much more power than the 600. They should've just stripped down a 600 if that was the game they were playing.

My all time favorite GSXRs are the SRADs from the late 90s, but I know they're getting a little outdated. They're bulky but it went with the design. The 2001-2003 just look bulky for no real reason, but the 04-05s looked great. All kinda downhill from there. I'm not sure why they felt the need to make the front of the headlight rounded, the angle of the fairing as it goes down past the wheel is too sharp. I could be into the tail, because I thought their old tail was too big, but it's hard to really tell when all I have to compare it to is that front end.

Overall I'm not too concerned with naked bikes actually having some style too them. You're not really supposed to make streetfighters out of naked bikes anyway. Go buy a crashed ninja that some kid flipped in his first week of riding and make something out of it. The benefit I see is that maybe now someone will see a naked bike and think it looks cool, instead of constantly just getting the "where's your fairing?" comments because no matter how clean a naked bike is, people still just assume it's a crashed and unfixed sportbike.

The versys, the B-king etc seem to have that optimus prime headlight. These seem to be channeling that same awful design feature.

The gladius is just plain fugly and tacky ... and I am so glad its a miserable flop.

Cool.

Perhaps because the new CBR's sorta do?

Companies haven't realised that people dont like things that look saggy. The damn headlight looks like a saggy ugly butt. I cant emphasize enough ... we like round headlights just fine, we like the single or dual pod type guages just fine and the turn signals in the body pod looks cool in pics, but in person it just looks and feels plasticy and tacky.

That IMHO is what killed the gladius. Of course the fact that it was a plasticky cheap feeling steel framed trash is why I hate it, and needless to say no one seems to have noticed that its a crappy a$$ steel frame.

Cool.

OT. Gixxer styling does not look appealing to me at all but I park next to one of these today and it was gorgeous...better looking then the picture.

The RR's have always looked 1/2 decent. GSXR and zx's and the R1/R6 look great too IMHO. Its the so called "standargs" ... stand aaaaaarrrrgggggghhhhh ...

The newer cbr1000rrs are growing on my, but I still don't think they're better looking than the original 1000rrs(although the 600rrs looked even better)

Personally I don't like them. The tail keeps getting higher and higher. I am more into the clean retro look. But I guess that's why I own an older GSE & F and not a GSX-R or a CBR :dunno_black:
