Title: high rev
Post by: mako1001 on October 11, 2010, 06:42:25 PM
Hello everyone Im new to this board so if I leave out something or whatever let me know thanks. Ok here goes I have a 97 gs500e with roughly 7500 miles on it when I got it it was running on one cylinder I rebuilt the carbs and cleaned them really good now it runs pretty good but sometimes will rev up to 4000 rpm's when stopped Ive checked for vacuum leaks and zip tied the ends of the vacuum hose it also only does this after running for about fifteen minutes thanks for any suggestions other than grammar and punctuation. Also if you let out the clutch enough to put some strain on the engine the rpms will drop back down.

Welcome to the forums! And check to see if the choke cable is too tight.

It may sound too simple, but is the idle turned in too far? Sometimes people turn it up when trying to sell a bike.

Damn, too slow. Definitely sounds like your idle is a little too high. Let the bike fully warm up then keep turning out the idle adjust screw and it should stop.

iI had the same problem with my 04 gs and never got it fixed was the idle screw that was adjusted daily, no vac leak carbs been cleaned and rejetted. that one was a tricky one.

Maybe a sticky throttle cable?

Wow, learn something new every day. Idle screw? Is that near the throttle? JKING man I never ever have these issues. And for that I am glad. I do read these posts though they are very helpful..Thank You guys.

I wish there was a button the Admins could put on such threads as "Solved" that way we could search them? Or maybe a Wickipedia post like Mary (Toogoofy(something)) did for gear. Just saying.

Well been riding and all this knowledge goes where???? I ain't Buddha but then again I ain't that idiot...what was his name...he called everyone out and them wrecked his bike?

Anyway check my posts..How did I do it? And if you have to ask nevermind...Buhhda won't tell you so don't ask him..Pandy knows but she is never here...Mary/Toogoofy317 knows but she don't know she knows!

There are others that are so smart they don't even deal with us..and I don't blame them GSJACK comes to mind.

Thanks for all the suggestions as for the idle screw it idles fine most of the time its just every once in awhile it will jump up and stay unless you get some friction on the clutch it might just be a mystery until I get the raider and then someone else can figure it out that or the problem might get riden out.
