Title: What is this part/mod? (Wheel color ring thingie)
Post by: Pelikan on October 12, 2010, 11:14:57 PM
I'm trying to figure out what this mod/part/whatever is.  A ring that clips on?  Paint?

In the below image, it's the circle of red on the wheels:

Most likely pin striping tape sold from an auto parts store.

Could also be paint or powder coating though.

It's a stupid European thing. Just saying. It looks like a pinto with chrome hub caps?

Reflective tape is the way to go.

yep - wheel tape. You can buy it everywhere. About $10-$20 for enough for all 4 wheel sides. Comes in all colors. You can get reflective (which you should) or non-reflective (don't - get the reflective). You can get a sheet of semi circles or a roll of tape.

I have black rims with white reflective tape. Looks cool and adds to nigh time visibility. You can even get black if you have black rims and you won't see it during the day but it reflects light at night for better visibility.

When you want a change, just peel it off and put a different color.

To each his own I guess?  It's a bad picture/example, but it does look good on some bikes/colorways (in my opinion).

I'm not quite clear on this (not being an American), are you for or against rim tape JB848?

Yes painted solid. And the Mole STFU if I wanted to do that I would have done that along time ago. You are just a squirrel trying to get a nut..which you don't have.

Yeh it is called rim tape or wheel stripes or visa versa. You can just go to an auto store and buy normal auto pin striping. I have used this on my bike and while others think it looks sh!t I happen to think it can break up the colour of your bike. There is a section in the GStwins wiki section on how to install it. Click on the link in there to get pictures of the tool the guy made to apply it. It works but I recommend you use 6mm tape instead of the 3mm he used as it is a right b!tch to get on.

I think, Twisted, it looks better in person than in a photo.  :thumb:

Have you ever considered taking anger management classes?

Nah... even if he hopped a flight... he'd lose a day crossing the date line. We'll just have to take some close up shots of red rim tape for him as he likes it so much.
