Title: Which bike is this?
Post by: MrTwinkle on October 14, 2010, 12:42:32 PM
Can any of you identify the bike in the background at 2:28 in this video?

looks like an old zx7r to me, but other possible choices are an old gsxr or old cbr900rr,

No gsxr fits that profile, what gets me most is the little air ducts up by the windshield. I can't think of anything that looks quite like that, and it's a shame we only get a rough front profile. Seeing as he is heavily representing West, it wouldn't surprise me if they are aftermarket/race fairings. I'm kinda stumped.

It's an European model, being ridden on English streets (note the drivers on the right-hand side of the car).  Also, note how small the headlamps are; definitely not american standard.  I suspect a ZX-4R.

Edit: The fairing has the breadth of a Kawasaki, but the air duct is more reminiscent of a Honda.

It's a different sized hole, but holes in that part of the fairing were definitely most common in early 90's kawasakis. I vote for kawasaki 400/600/750 with an aftermarket fairing.

Wait, actually you can see an exhaust on the left side of the bike, so unless the image is reversed it looks like the bike has dual exhausts. Not sure if that'll help narrow it down.

I thought the same about the pipe being on the wrong side, but the West logos are not reversed (they don't read backwards) so it must have duals. And that green Kawi above, what model is that? I would love to get one of those over here in the states.

the one in the picture is a zxr400. I'd love to get my hands on one, but it's not gonna happen in the USA. I'll have to just keep dreaming.

I would say the the dual exhausts would most likely mean it was a 1000cc bike, but kawasaki is the only one that seems to love those exhausts on everything, and since they've always put them on their ex250s, it really doesn't mean too much here.

Look what I just stumbled upon. I googled Kawasaki 600 90 and this pops up:

The fairing and headlights look awfully similar to the one from the video don't you think?

Definitely looks close, the thing that's throwing everyone off now is that triangle shaped intake hole instead of the round one. That's why I feel like it might be an aftermarket fairing.

Looks a lot like a vfr400

Also I have been lucky enough to PAX in a Caterham R300 around the Nurburgring

It would be my guess and this is just a guess.

There are 2 things that make this bike unique 1. the round headlights. 2. the triangular vents or recesses on both sides.

I think this is either a prototype or custom fairing kit from "West" obviously there are "West" stickers everywhere on the bike and he is wearing "West" Riding gear. I don't think by the video or the screen shots it will be possible to identify this bike for sure. It is also very possible that "Top Gear" did "West" a favor and staged this shot of the bike for publicity.

Kudos to whom ever figures this out

Boy if that ain't it I don't know what is. I was thinking it was an older bike because of the round headlights but that is a popular mod too so.

Aaah, single sided swingarm. We didn't think of that as a reason for the exhaust being on the other side! Crazy bikes you can only buy in Europe and Asia....

I know I forgot about that two tt_four. I was fixated on the vent cause I knew that was unique. The round Headlights led me on a red herring. I thought it was either an older bike or it was a custom mod by "West" fairings. The latter being most likely.

joshr08 smoked us though!

well i too was thinking it was an older bike so i looked for a site to buy fairings for older sport bikes and started flipping through the small bikes first as most bikes over tehre are small cc bikes.
