Thanks JB. She will be kept in a warm garage at my parents. I have some plans to do overall maintainence and painting/ upgrades over that time.

yea, i'm putting in my last few rides as well it seems lately. after that, just gonna hope for those sporadic warm days in the cold season. :thumb:
Well I'll ride in anything but snow and for a week after snow (too much salt). But then overtime I have been able to acquire the proper riding gear so it's no big deal.

what season ending, I have no idea what your talking about. I am NY to, not upstate but it still gets cold here.
As long as there is no ice on the road you are good to go. Just put some extra layers on :thumb:
the only part of the body that gets really cold is your hands, so I am doing some research about heated grips, better gloves (ski or snowboard may work, need to find some tough ones to test), even your feet are not very cold.
I remember last winter I would place my hand on the motor to defrost my fingers ;)
Coworkers thought I was crazy to ride in such cold weather.
As long as you prepare yourself it's OK. It also depends on how far you commute. I personally would not want to ride too long distances in cold.

whatever you choose to do always think about safety. Tires don't get nearly as warm and sticky as they do in the summer!!
Im no stanger to the cold and dont mind riding in it either. I have no place to keep it inside so I don't want it out in the elements with only a cover.
Was beautiful in NJ this weekend as I was home so I got a good 5hrs of riding in.

well, here are a few ideas...i have heard the vstrom hand guards would fit on stock gs handlebars. not definitely sure, but that would be one helpful option. the second is yes to heated grips. many guys on here from what i have read have them installed and basically spliced them with the running light. just make sure your grip wires have a fuse on them. mine didnt and i noticed my battery draining more than usual until i put the inline fuse in. and as far as gloves go, i got these a few winters ago...http://www.carhartt.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10101&storeId=10051&productId=96501&langId=-1&categoryId=10904
not a huge amount of protection per se...but they have 100g thinsulate in the palm, 150g thinsulate on the back of the hand to handle the wind a bit more. they have a type of gel pad in the palm to help with vibration and the back of the thumb has felt on it that helps out with wiping off the shield when it gets misty. plus, they are long enough to go over the cuffs of your jacket and they are waterproof as well.
give some of these ideas a shot. having the right jacket and riding pants with an internal lining helps as well. going to stores after winter you can usually find some closeout deals for the next season..
