Title: FS: 2004 GS500F $2400 OBO KS
Post by: jrains89 on October 19, 2010, 04:39:39 PM
Well it has come to this, I must sell my beloved bike. For one I need the cash for school, and secondly i'm tired of almost dying every time i go for a ride. Lawrence, KS has the worst drivers in the world and someone pulls out in front of me, changes lane into me, and recently a chick on her cellphone almost hit me head on but saw me at the last second.

The bike is a 2004 GS500F that I bought with 256 miles on it and today it has 2,954.8 and is mechanically perfect. It runs beautifully, partly due to the carb work I've done but mostly because it's been well maintained and has so few miles - It already has had 3 oil changes and the oil still comes out clear yellow. I emptied the forks and put 20W in them which greatly helped with the ride. The bike is one of a very few with polished rims and has a custom decal job. The bike has a small amount of cosmetic damage as i will point out in the pictures but it's nothing you can see from more than 3 feet away, the previous owner said what they all say "i dropped it in the driveway" but there was not enough damage to make me think it was anything more than a 5mph drop max. There's also a mystery dent in the tank that was on it when I bought it that can't be seen from the sides, no rust inside the tank whatsoever, I have to point out the dent to my friends and they always say they never noticed it.

if you can see the cover on this side has a few scratches but it's only cosmetic and there's some bits of touch up paint here and there but as you can see it's damn hard to tell. As you can see I've done the rear fender delete.

You can see here that I have blacked out the windscreen

In this pic I'm showing the custom 5000K HID kit I installed, it has a pretty nice cutoff and looks clean.

Here's that dent I was talking about, how does this happen?

here's the mileage

And here's what the bike looks like when it's clean and in the sun showing off the polished rims, this was this summer before i did the fender delete and the black windscreen. This pic is just here because the first pictures were taken today and it's dirty as crap, I don't have my cleaning supplies here.

Bike Features

Here it is folks, please help me out and let this bike stay in the great GS community

not even a single comment like "this bike is a pile of crap!"

i know it's late in season so selling is going to be hard but if you think about it, it would be nice to already have a bike sorted out for next season.

This bike is awesome and has never given me any problems

And of course we can talk about the price, so any offer will be taken seriously

Rock chalk.  My wife graduated from KU, what a fun little town Lawrence is, enjoy it.  Sucks about the drivers and my inability to contribute anything meaningful to the thread.

I picked up a clean 04 with 1300 (that's right) miles on it this spring for $1500 out of Manhattan. Good luck!

That was his asking price. Sometimes it's just that easy.

The dent looks odd. That's probably scaring off people. Unconsciously it would be considered more serious damage than scrapes on the side.

Those front turn signals also look really strange. Seems like the turn signals are missing. Looks like someone stuck a bulb in the turn signal mounting hole.
Grab a pair of used front turn signals and put them on. The eye appeal and completeness of the bike will go way up. Some may like flushes, but factory original is always better when selling a bike.

So put turn signals back on. Then go down to 2000 because of the dent. You really don't know the condition inside the tank and you don't know if there is hidden damage. It takes a lot to dent a tank that way. Something big and heavy was dropped on it or hit it really hard.

Consider replacing the tank. Used ones are readily available. Even a tank with a few scratches is less serious than that fugley dent. Scratches are easy to understand and can easily be fixed. You can't fix that dent (well, maybe someone can but would probably cost as much as a used tank.)

I told you along ime ago those rims "ROCK" but I think the tank is killing your sale as well as the front signals not matching rear. I have no idea how that dent could have happened! Weird!

I know the condition of the inside of the tank, it's fine it's just dented, no damage or anything. I know this for 2 reasons: 1. I've ridden it for 2000 miles and when I first bought it I was nervous about it so i religiously checked for any rust residue in the gas and filter, no dice.  2. my father is a doctor so we borrowed an endoscope camera to look at it and it looks fine no rust or any kind and no creasing.

I said I can come down in price and the remaining repairs can't happen until I have money - one of the reasons for selling is school cost more than expected.

Guessing at the dent.... someone was trying to do Christ Air but fell foreward and hit the tank with their knee on the way down.

There was some crash photos here a while back too. And the tank had a dent like that. I think it was determined that the tank bent Back toward the rider to get it  :dunno_black:
