Title: '08 sprocket
Post by: ragecage23 on October 24, 2010, 04:12:44 PM
I'm assuming the difference between the '04 GS500F's through the '09 GS500F's aren't much, but does this include the front sprocket? My questions being will a '94-'08 front sprocket fit on my '09?

Almost definitely be ok. Cross reference the part numbers on www.bikebandit.com or www.sprocketspecialists.com

It all depends on the shoulder on the rear face of the sprocket and if the sprocket you are intending to fit has one or not. Suzuki started running with them around `93-`94. The idea was to increase the contact area between the sprocket and O/P shaft splines in an attempt to reduce loading and limit wear on the splines. Its right on the changeover year so it could go either way. Your `09 needs the later shouldered version. Earlier un-shouldered ones will fit but as they are thinner they will wander along the shaft, not good in the long term as it will increase wear on the splines.

Check out the JT sprockets site, look for #565 and #516 and compare the differences between the years

BTW...when you do replace the sprocket, clean the splines off and then cover them in grease, it goes someway in preventing spline wear. :thumb:

Yeah I just ordered a sprocket off ebay that was listed for '04 up. Ended up being the non-shouldered. Works fine though, I'll keep an eye on it.

I think I'll just pay Cycle Gear a visit and see if they can help me further, thank you all though.
