I have purchased new front yellow reflectors to replace one that is broken. Now I want to remove the old broken reflector brackets from the forks.
If I remove the steering bolt that holds on the reflector bracket what will happen? Can the bolt be removed and reinstalled without affecting the front forks?
I removed both of the front yellow reflectors, brackets, and bolts on both my 97 GS and my 02 GS and threw them away, they just kept breaking off. Poor bracket design.

I followed the advice of one of our forum members and purchased different HD part number reflectors for the forks. I want to remove the old broken reflector bracket and don't know what will happen when I take off the bolt that holds it on.
If you have a 89-02 naked GS500/E that reflector bracket is held on with the lower triple clamp bolt that holds the forks. No problem taking those out to remove the bracket, the upper triple clamp bolt will hold the fork tube in place until you put it back.

Yep. I wouldn't ride it around until you put the bolt back.
Took off the reflectors some 15,000 ago, just take bolt out, reflector off, put bolt back in, no drama.
That is what I needed to know. Thanks to both of you.
Once one of the reflectors broke off, I wrapped reflective tape around the top of the fork leg.
