The left cylinder on my 95 will not run with increased throttle or the choke off.
I've swapped the left and right coils, no difference. Compression is fine in both cylinders, I have new spark plugs, I cleaned the carburetor, I'm getting blue spark from both coils, the float height is correct, no holes in the diaphragms, main jet is clean, tried swapping the jet needle, slides lift on increased throttle, carbs are synced, air mixture screw is correctly set.
The left cylinder idles just fine but if I turn choke off or twist the throttle it will die.
My battery could use a replacement. My alternator is also not working. Would a weak battery or broken alternator cause one cylinder to die?
I am stuck, not sure what to check next. Would a valve adjustment fix the issue? I don't hear knocking from the valve cover and the left cylinder idles fine.
Please, please offer any advice you can. I have been reading through gstwin posts for weeks now trying to resolve this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to get one last ride in before I pack the gs away for the winter.
Thanks
My guess is you have 2 separate issues.
Alternator will need to charge the battery. If not, it will die when the battery runs out.
The left cyl going out can just be clogged carbs. It will do what you have going on is you have a clogged carb or a bad float that is not letting in fuel etc.
I'd clean the carbs and check ... then check the altrenator.

The bad alternator would explain why the bike dies on the highway after 20 minutes of riding. But the floats are fine, I can drain the bowls and fuel will come out. The main jet is clean, I've cleaned it. Can I visually inspect if gas is flowing out of the main jet?
The cyl could be weak if you have it clean ... BUT ... a tight valve wont do this, neither will a bad cyl really.
Losing a cyl when you open a throttle is carbs if you ask me ... something is bad in them.
NOW, dying in 20mins on a full battery is a dead giveaway sign the alternator is bad. However did it used to be 1hr, then 30 mins then drops to 20 ... the lower limit is 15 mins BTW, on battery alone, on a single start, 15 mins. If your alternator is going, it takes a few 100 miles to die, it will decay and die ... a regulator will die abruptly. It will be great one day and go to the 15 min the next day.

An update..
I sprayed starting fluid in the left carb and the cylinder ran, then backfired and died.
I revved the left cylinder with starting fluid for a couple of minutes. It seems to have cleared up a bit. The left cylinder will now idle without choke and I can open the throttle up a bit without it dying.
Did I essentially clean the carb by running starting fluid through it?
No you didn't, but that back fire sure did something ...
Dude you dont want the thing backfiring into your carbs, especially with you squirting ether ... seriously ...
I'd either lazy man clean it (filling carbs with sea foam) or well and truly clean it by opening it up.
