Haha where the hell did that happen? The forecast shows solid mid 60s all week. I'm thoroughly looking forward to having veterans day off to get in some good riding.

First hail/rain/snow mix of the year here today  Only for an hour & much too warm for any accumulation but still, yuck!
BTW: Just a tad west of Manhattan.

And skirecs, leaves on the trees and snow on the ground??? Where'd you say that was?

looks like the solo tail that uses the stock seat, but covers up the back with the new rear plastics

It probably was warm and in your pocket. When you took it out, it fogged over when the cold air hit it.

Gee, no "off-season" (http://mysite.verizon.net/vze2wc9e/ummm.gif)
That could actually be a bad thing.
When do you get time to catch up on repairs & modding without a snow season?
Especially things like drilling starter bolts?
  <I had to mention that> :icon_mrgreen:

Cool post madjak30, but Christmas lights in early November? (http://mysite.verizon.net/vze2wc9e/ummm.gif)
Either way, no sissies in Canada. Only the strong survive!
By The Way. . . That bike of yours looks like it wants to go out and play in the snow!

Yeah, I know...but I haven't got studs in the tires........yet!!! :icon_twisted: :cookoo: :icon_twisted:

If it was a dirt bike I would seriously consider it...

We got that much snow again today while I was at work...bleh...and it's not supposed to stop until Sunday night...kinda sorry I sold my sled (snowmobile) a few years ago...oh well, I guess that is what the truck is for... :thumb:

As for the xmas lights...I just don't take mine down...I know, lazy...and I have a few neighbours that have theirs on already...I figure you should atleast wait for December...

I really like that windshield! Work well in the cold? Does it keep the cold air off of your shoulders, or just your torso/helmet? I love naked bikes, but the longer I ride the less I care for wind on the highway and when it's cold. Someday I think I'm gonna find something just like that one just to put on when it gets cold, or if I need to ride on the highway somewhere. How long does it take to remove/install? I wouldn't even have a problem with clamps staying on the bars as long as I could remove the main part. I think a removable windshield, some hand guards and heated grips and I'd be up for for some colder rides.

I'd also love to find a bike for getting around town in winter. Something like a 125cc dual sport, or just a small street bike I could put knobbies on. I love those days when it snows 2 feet in a night and the city shuts down for a few hours because cars can't get anywhere.  I could just take something like that out, just drag my feet on the ground so I can't fall over, and crush my way through all the mess at 10mph.

This coming from a guy telling me to get the MT-01...anyway, the shield works not bad...if I lean forward slightly the wind travels over my head...you can adjust it higher and lower and is a quick connect...it's a SpitFire...not sure on the model number, it was on the bike when I bought it...there are two clamps that are mounted on the bars, and set screws that hold the screen on...you just have to make sure the set screws stay tight...

Here is a better pic of the attachment...

and a pic from the front in better light...

Not sure about keeping the elements off the shoulders, but I know I would want hand guards if I was going to ride in real cold weather...I know it really helps when you get caught out in the rain...naked sucks in the rain, unless you like getting soaked... :icon_eek:

Nice pic...when was that one taken?

Believe me, we don't want to get into the "where does it snow more?" debate...nobody really wants to win that one... :icon_mrgreen:

Although it is pretty cold here now...-18C (-1F)

Winter sucks!!

I am just glad I live in a climate where I can ride ALL year round.

BTW I read in the newspaper the other day that if you are riding at 100kph (60mph) in 10 deg Celsius weather (50 Fahrenheit) the wind chill factor on your bike will be around -9 deg Celsius (16 Fahrenheit). Frostbite can occur in 30 mins without the adequate gear at these temps. Interesting read I thought.

If you want a windshield that gives good winter coverage and is easy to take off and on it's hard to beat National Cycles Plexi 2 and 3 shields.  Can be removed or put back on in a minute or two without tools.  The Plexi 3 is overkill but I find the Plexi 2 is just right for me for winter riding, the wings on it shield the hands nicely in the winter like hand guards do.  Also it is so much better in heavy rains than the Spitfire.

I put my first Spitfire on a Nighthawk 650 I bought in Feb years ago and it was just adequate but not real good for winter riding even with heavy snowmobile type gloves.  After years of riding year around with a Plexi 2 and taking it off for a while during the hottest part of the summer I put a Spitfire on my 97 GS for a trip from NE Ohio to the Smoky Mtns back in 02 and have been switching them back and forth winter and summer since.

Thoughts on the Spitfire, I never liked it's flopiness with the 2 point mount and converted mine to a four point mount years ago.  It's just right for me for spring, summer, and fall but I need more for winter weather riding with temps in the 20's and 30's F.  I prefer more wind in the face in warmer weather like the Spitfire gives over the Plexi 2.  My lousy pics showing my 4 point Spitfire mounting:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v443/jcp8832/SpitfirePicsGS3.jpg

Easy enough to switch twice a year for my best of both worlds solution:

That sounds too low.  But different weather services may use current calculations.
Here's the one I use:  windchill.xls (http://www.familyjones.org/paul/Windchill.xls)

Found the one published by the Australian weather bureau:

It only goes to 80kmh and that is -7 at 80k's. Would probably be around -9 at 100k's all at 10 deg.  :dunno_black:
