Title: Nasty, Rusty Gash
Post by: Fry on November 09, 2010, 08:43:36 PM
2001 Tacoma, Flawless Vehicle, 150K mileage, no major issues, until this.

Weird, seems like something came from the drivers side floor area, from the inside out as the pushed out crack indicates.

Appearently I must have pushed really hard in the Dead Pedal Area of the floor and pushed it through...Then moisture got in and the cancer started, making a crack something far worse, a Nasty Gash.

Cancer cut out.

Patch Welded in...

After wards I used seam sealer on the inside and out, then primed the metal. I then applied 3M Rubberized Spray Coating.... I could have cut out a bit more near the rocker sills, but it wasn't bad in that area.

You know what really pissed me off about all of this, those SOB, Dirty Rotten Bastid, Evil, Moronic, plastic clips anchors toyota use to keep trim on...

Good job. I had to do something similar on a crx once, but it was much more intensive than that. All kinds of nasty nooks and crannies in cramped places that had to be cut out, then the same part cut from a donor car, and welded back in.

And nice truck  :thumb:

Yeah those clips are for a one time install. At the stealership they just rip them out and replace the whole piece. But good job. Probably saved $500 plus having a shop do it for you. As long as you sealed it up good it will last another 150K :thumb:

It's more likely that the moisture got in there first and started the rot....worth checking to work out where it was coming from...

I have a tendency to leave the window open during rain storms, winter slush, generally not maintaining anything other than Oil and Filters, body and appearance? Pffft...

Well at least you did it right most would just RTV a piece of plastic over it and keep going. :thumb:
