Title: It Finally has arrived, Gran Turismo 5
Post by: Fry on November 24, 2010, 07:09:33 PM
After far too long of a wait, the be all end all (For me) of racing simulators has finally arrived....And it's altered my life already.

I built this "Apparatus" for this specific game. $30 Mazda seat pulled from local wrecking yard, some square tubing , a Logitech G27 Wheel, Pedals, and Shifter, welding, and I have a fully adjustable cockpit.

I plan on spending some serious hours in this rig, playing this game...I may get fired from work, for taking to much time off , the GS project will take a back burner for a while, yes I am a geek.

Here are some pics....

Wicked set up  :icon_twisted:...the wife won't let me build one  >:(...I was going to go all out with plywood and surround sound...32" monitor  :thumb:...yeah, the wife vetoed the idea...did they add damage to GT5?  I have Prologue, but no damage...so now I am playing GRID  :icon_twisted:...a little more arcade, but the damage makes it seem more realistic  :thumb:...

I do believe there is damage, but not on all the cars, I think just the premium cars?, not sure though haven't got enough seat time yet.

Grid is a very good game as well, played the dog crap out of that, as well as Dirt 1 and 2....

Luckily, I am the Master of my Domain, no wife to VETO the idea....Though the GF does think its a bit ridiculous, LOL!!!

Yeah, they just don't get it...it sure beats the cost of actual racing...you would think at 40 I would have out grown the gaming thing...nope...it's kinda like riding my bike, it's something that is totally for enjoyment and for me...my wife doesn't understand wanting a bike either...yet she will spend hours reading a book in a room by herself...same thing, it's your time to escape...I was going to get a muscle car instead, but she didn't want me getting the car...'cause then I would want to build a garage in the backyard (no room in "her" garage for my car, the bike fits though), so the bike was the smarter choice...

Sweet. I suddenly feel less bad about wanting to get a ps3 just for this game... I haven't convinced myself to drop the cash yet though...

Do it.....If you'll only be playing this game, perhps purchase a used one off of E-Bay or Craigslist.

You need something to keep you entertained in the winter... :icon_mrgreen:

Just be careful...hours can pass before you know it...I don't have a clock in my TV room, and I have come out of there at 4am on many occasions... :cookoo:

Wow just wow! I've been playing the krap out of COD Black Ops. I hope I get GT5 for Christmas. Picked up Epic Mickey today for the Wii it is a boat load of fun. It is not comptetitive and I can chill out and go at my own pace.

I had my defibrillator checked the other day and the tech looked at me and asked me what I was doing at 1:30 Sunday afternoon. It took me a few minutes to remember he said well whatever it was that you were doing your heart came within 4 beats of it firing. so, I sat down and pondered and realized I was playing COD and was getting pissed at the game. I think if I ever get my heart rate high enough that my device fires I might just need to give that game up!

Yeah, every night since last wednesday has been a 4am night for me. I'm about 35% through, not sure how because I've done a lot. Almost all the special events, expert in A-spec and pro in B-spec. My favorite new track is the revision of SSR5, where it's pretty much a 5 mile stretch of highway and then exit, u-turn, and do it again. The damage is okay, you'll get smashed in fenders and bent hoods but you can still roll the car and it look like you had a fender bender.

What I dislike most is that you can't fast-forward the B-spec races, and you actually have to keep track of them so the driver doesn't start slacking. In gt4 I used to set it on an 8 hour endurance before I left for school, and come home to $2mil. It's a lot harder to get massive amounts of money in this one.

I just found an error(glitch?). If you see a C1 Corvette Convertible in the used car lot, click on it and read the description. It' amazing how a mistake that obvious could make it in.

Now that sir is the way it is done!!!!  I am a fanatic racing game PHREAK!!!!  I bought the collector's edition of GT5 and I didn't even own a PS3.  My buddy at work let me borrow his for as long as I need.

I like the game, but there are too many glitches and bad aliasing problems.  I am still a GT guy at heart, but Forza is my game of choice.

Forza is my game of choice.

Guess what I'm playing.

I stopped playing Gran Turismo when the new one came out for the PS3...I used to play it on the PS2

I've been playing GRID...I like the damage engine that CodeMasters has created...sounds like GT5 has the better physics, but dropped it when they came up with the damage model...that has always bugged me about that game, and I have been playing GranTourismo since it came out for PS1...I'll probably get it anyway, even though the Prologue sucked...some damage is better than none to get the physics and the tuning that GT always has...with most other games you have to sell your car and get a more powerful one...if only they would figure out how to let you do engine swaps...

Anyway...Later.

Yeah I have found multiple glitches, especially a persistent problem with leveling up in B-Spec. I guess most of my issues are with B-Spec in general, they definitely could have done better with it. My driver is a total dumbass, even at level 15 I find him slamming on the brakes in the middle of straightaways, and sometimes RIGHT BEFORE the finish line, causing a loss of the race on multiple occasions.

Oh man, that's quite the setup. I bet your wife loves having that sitting around when company comes over.

I see you've got 3 pedals, does this game let you use a clutch as it would actually work in a car? I don't play many car games, but I play a lot of Tourist Trophy(which is the best motorcycle game I've played so far, but I'm sure you already know about it considering how much you guys are into motorcycles and games). One of my few complaints is that there's no clutch. You can shift and everything, but I spent 95% of my time just riding around doing wheelies and stoppies, and a clutch could make that more fun. Granted you start to run out of buttons when you're using a normal hand controller.
Title: Re: It Finally has arrived, Gran Turismo 5
Post by: redhenracing2 on December 09, 2010, 03:30:14 PM
Nope, no clutch in this one. Only racing game I've seen a clutch in was nfs: pro street, and if I remember correctly, even then it was just for drift races. I didn't care for TT, too hard to win races seeing as you couldn't even really upgrade the bike. Just kinda felt like a cheap gt4 with bikes, and not very well put together.

I agree, Tourist Trophy was a great concept, but there were just too many flaws with that game. I wish someone would come out with a motorcycle game now-a-days.

It's not much of a problem any more, he's level 21 now and is actually decent. He can usually win the same race with the same car at a similar lead to mine. Just beat the GT All-Stars tourney (expert, bottom center) and he actually did a little better than I did. Neither one of us can beat the NASCAR series though . . .

I really hate when games are proprietary to one system or another. In some ways I regret buying the XBox 360 instead of the PS3. I had a PS2 when I decided I needed a new system. I got the xbox mainly because it was cheaper at the time. Oh well. I suppose in the future I'll have to just cave in and have multiple systems. That's not a bad thing right?  :icon_twisted:

Are there any motorcycle games you've found that are better, or are you just let down with all motorcycle games in comparison to car games? In all the games I've played I've never found one I liked as much as this one out of that of the motoGP/TT superbike games that I've owned. I've wasted so much money searching for the perfect game, buying one after the other just to realize none of them are as good as Tourist Trophy. I also love having the huge selection of streetbikes to ride too. I know all of the race ready bikes are fun but it gets old riding the same 4 bikes all the time in some of the other games.

I didn't really think too much about upgrading. They have the 4 classes of bikes, so each license you get lets you get better bikes. Once you get to the race ready sportbikes there's not much more I could expect out of any of them. That cbr600rr in race trim will wheelie when it's going 150mph and I can usually beat just about anything with the 600/1000rrs(I assume the guy in charge of the handling must be a cbr guy because they seem to handle way better than anything else)

Nope, haven't tried any other gp games. I imagine TT has to be the best of them, as it's made by the same people as the best ato racing game.

In other news, I just beat all the expert events. Classic race car cup is the worst of it, use the Toyota 7 that you win from B-Spec's Like the Wind.

Anyway, pretty cool game (as expected)  :thumb:

Yeah, my friend tried to get my GT5 for Christmas but he waited until Christmas eve they just laughed at him at best buy. I got Tron evolution though the light cycles are sweet!

I like having the single platform games if you try playing COD Black Ops on the PS3 you will see why. We got a chitty port of the 360 game but paid the same price. I had a 360 but I couldn't see paying to pay online. So, I gave it to a friend who only had a PS2 and had been sick.

Oh, wait I did get a gift card for gamestop $25 hmmm. GT5 or do I save it for when Mortal Kombat comes out. Decisions decisions. PGR4 was pretty descent on the motorcycle racing. I had a couple of MC games but found them to be harder than riding in real life. :cookoo:

Go into the options (from the home screen in GT mode) and there is an area where you can download some extra stuff onto the harddrive. If I recall correctly, it took about 30 minutes to install. It makes things load noticeably faster.

I'm a big fan of Criterion so I opted for NFS: Hot Pursuit, and I gotta say, I love the shaZam! out of the multiplayer on it. Between that and COD I'm plenty occupied. Now if I can just get the wife to ditch WoW...

I have Hot Pursuit as well, and enjoy it just as much. It's a nice change of pace, just hop in a random car and go for a spin. Also provides a much better sense of speed, 200 mph actually feels like it should.

I know I have 1 picture of me wearing it, I just saw it a few weeks ago after I had forgotten I had it. I'll have to keep looking and try to remember where I saw it. I just looked through every folder on my computer and don't see it so it must be on the internet somewhere. Hopefully it wasn't on my wifes computer, because it currently won't turn on. I even went over everything with glow in the dark paint, so the whole outfit glows. I really want to put it on, put some leds inside the clear bodywork on my XB and go riding.
