Title: Anyone wanna help me with some brainstorming?
Post by: skirecs on November 25, 2010, 10:45:03 AM
So, the previous owner tried to convert it single seat by cutting the seat just forward of the seat lock, and fiberglassing the remainder of the seat to the two side plastics and down around the tail, so its like a shell that fits over the subframe. They also cut the subframe off and shortened it just beyond the brace.

Naturally, this is ridiculous and it has started cracking, the nub by the fuel selector cracked off, both fairing are in two pieces and the tail section flops around all over the place.

my plan is to buy a new seat, ditch the plastics, relocate the electronics to in front of the battery in a box (have pods) and get a new taillight from a dirtbike or something

are there any other options? i dont think i can get stock plastics because the subframe is all mangled

i think this would be a way to get rid of all this cracked hobbled together shaZam! and make it look a little cleaner

Can we get a pic of the mangled bits in question?

Without seeing what's left, I want to say check out some fiberglass bits from Airtech.

those airtech fairings seem to be well out of my price range, about a third the cost of the bike

Posting pics would be very helpful and enable a lot more brainstorming on this topic :-) .

From what I'm picturing in my head, your issue can be solved by replacing the subframe and getting appropriate plastics and a seat. That should take some basic cutting and welding.  The cheapest (my guess..under $100) and easiest fix is probably original gs parts.

skirecs, your posted solution seems like the cheapest and easiest to do, but if you can source another subframe and can weld, you could take it back to original fairly easily.
pics?

I have an entire second frame sitting in the garage. Get me a pic and I can chop the section you need. I also have the seat you asked about, a set of frame covers that need painted, inner fender, and a tail light. If you're interested I can send the frame section and seat for $100. If you want the light, covers, and inner add $50 plus shipping. If you're close I'll help you put her together too. I'm in NE Ohio.

goodnight sweet prince

anyways

you can see the tail fairings were glassed with the second half of the seat into one unit, which slides over the frame, which is cut off right after where the other brace comes up

its a mess, and i think the cheapest way to get it reliable is to just get a new seat, relocate electronics and get a dirtbike style all in one rear light unit and put it under the seat

thanks reajcox for the offers but i think ill just get hte seat, ill contact you by pm
