You rebuild a clutch by opening it and replacing the plates.

I'm going to be rebuilding my clutch in the next few weeks. I've ordered a clutch cover gasket, a set of friction plates and new springs (EBC - slight stiffer springs), a new clutch push piece, bearing and washer. I'm hoping the plain plates and the basket are in good order. I probably will not need the washer, bearing and push piece, but I thought that I would order them just in case I find the bearing is worn when I open everything up. I don't want to have to do this operation again for a long, long time, so I thought I would renew as much as I can to be on the safe side.
I don't want to have to dump all the oil via the sump plug as it's such a faff. I'm planning on syringeing a few litres of oil out of the filler cap to save the mess and trouble. It'll mean I can just fill up when I've completed the job. But if I find evidence of damage I guess I'll have to do a complete oil and filter change.

Those are just clutch baskets - they don't have all the 'innards' required like the Plain/Friction plates, etc.

It looks like what powersportsnation is selling but they just call it a "basket", while their photo (scroll to the bottom of their auctions for more photos, don't just go by the title) shows a complete unit.
Am I missing something?
if your going to take the time to drop a side cover and take the time to remove a clutch thats wore out then do it the smart way so your not replacing it again in 500 miles. get new friction plates and steel disks. make sure you also read the directions that come with them some you have to soak in whatever oil you run in the bike others you can put in dry. i have had both before.

I just got my EBC friction plates today. The instructions say to soak the plates in engine oil for a few hours before fitting like you say joshr08.
