Title: 2010 Ipswich Toy Run Ride - Dec 12
Post by: mister on December 05, 2010, 01:40:55 AM
Last year there were around 750 bikes on the Ipswich Toy run. More than the previous year. And you can see a few pics about it on this thread http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=51048.msg577974#msg577974

But these two shots sum it up...

Anyway. It's on again as you can see by this flyer...

And I've worked out that this is the route (http://www.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Brassall,+Queensland,+Australia&daddr=-27.601393,152.7402629+to:-27.6146318,152.7357031+to:-27.6403684,152.7493274+to:-27.65497,152.75597+to:-27.6376917,152.771973+to:-27.61775,152.7895+to:T+L+Cooney+Ave&hl=en&geocode=FQ_lWv4dHLYaCSmVc9TMHbSWazFQgd7zWqMCBQ%3BFQ_WWv4dpqEaCSllP8xMIrSWazHQlDnMWqMCEw%3BFVmiWv4d148aCSmnkTbXK7SWazHR2jrMWqMCEw%3BFdA9Wv4dD8UaCSmHo2Duw7WWazGhsCzNWqMCEw%3BFcYEWv4dAt8aCSnXDFlt7bWWazEBWBrNWqMCEw%3BFUVIWv4dhR0bCSklCwFnr7WWazFArSzNWqMCEw%3BFSqWWv4d_GEbCSmLTRBS8LSWazEQkLPNWqMCEw%3BFWGdWv4dK5EbCQ&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=3&sz=16&via=1,2,3,4,5,6&sll=-27.64242,152.753327&sspn=0.015359,0.027874&ie=UTF8&ll=-27.625521,152.766094&spn=0.061445,0.111494&z=14)

Last year the ride was slow (an hour to cover the 20km route) - but nice to be seen (in the flyer above, I am the guy starting from the left who is a head above the others with a red short sleeve - just to the left of the green shirt guy and two bikes to the left of the orange shirt guy. And the auction at the end, while not really paid attention to by a lot of people, was a pretty funny affair to watch.

Anyway. I'll be there again, this year. A bit of tinsel on the bike, a toy or two strapped down to give to the Salvos at the end, and camera in hand.

If you're gonna be there, either send me a PM or just reply to this thread.

Oh yeah... it's FREE. However, if you want a badge or pin, a bottle of water, an egg and bacon roll and cup of tea, then you need to register. You do NOT have to register, only if you want the other goodies.

I know the weather forecast isn't looking good. And that could Drastically reduce numbers. But Sunday the 12th is a way aways yet and the weather still might turn nice for the day.

I don't guarantee they'll be there as I'm not sure who the major sponsor is - it Used to be Noyes but they went bust so last time it was Team Moto. I can't imagine them only giving it a go once. But either way, just seeing all the bikes and how some people decorate them is amazing.

I think the rain put off a lot of people... but not everyone.

Last year, around 750. This year, I was told, 300 registered (not everyone registered). Last year the ride was Slow, this year a decent 40kph. Last year, two bike cops, this year five plus two candy cars. So while seeing the smiling kids waving was a joy, and the auction at the end equally entertaining, the ride itself was better just for the speed of it.

Team Moto was there. Only two of them though, handing out caps. I asked about the small TM turnout and was told by the TM Marketing Guy, TM had their Xmas party the night before and no-one wanted to come.

No rain. Checked the radar. Their was rain on it but it was all passing north of Ippy. Overcast but rainless for my duration, though I heard it did rain at the racetrack a while after, just briefly.
