That would be a sight tube I believe? I don't see why you couldn't braze the fittings on??

I believe it would be far less fugly to get a kawasaki or honda fuel guage fitting and weld it to the bottom side and just use a guage or a light or something to light up. Sadly this is on a HD sportster tank and those fools obviously have no taste, imagination or common sense. WTF is gonna happen if you dump the bike on the right ... fools.
Of course that is a stupid suggestion ... I mean, they ride 12 miles a year ... so its a non issue, but those 12 miles man, would be the coolest ever where you can see the fuel go in ... :cookoo:

Comming to think of it, there is a 1000000 ways to implement it better.
The new sport bikes have a screw in type guage that you could fit in the tank far far easier. Its wired to an idiot light and I believe it is a straight on connection to ground, as in if it drops below a certain level, the thing ground the idiot light, just wire it in the neutral or T/S one, it would work just the same way as well as work in the neutral or the t/s position. These are sorta like a water level guage that is similar to what goes in a toilet. Simple tube with a floating ball, @ the bottom is 2 electrical prongs. Level drops and it completes the circuit. Simple as can be.
The old kawi fitting is a square 2 inch plate, too many possibilities for leaks ... so I'd avoid that. The advantage though as is the case on the old kawi/honda's the level is shown by a guage, not just an idiot light. If you want that, well, spring for that, get a B4 guage cluster and wire that guage to the water temp meter. No clue what it would take, not thought about it ... ever till now.
This metal/plastic tube on the side is just plain the worst way you can implement something like this. Typical of someone who looks at the bike more than actually riding it. BTW that plastic hose will prolly get eaten by gas unless its tygon or some like that, which really while is sorta transparent, you cant get a good look when moving along at any real speed. And WTF you gonna do when its dark. :cookoo: ... seriously :cookoo:

You could put a "T" on the fuel line and run a piece of Tygon tubing up along side of the tank and it would do the same thing :thumb:

I saw someone do this to their tank once, except they put it down along the back side of the tank. I couldn't figure out how that was supposed to be comfortable.
Also, the problem with the GS is that all the gas is towards the back of the tank, you would have to put the tube where your leg rests. The HD tank is flat all the way along the bottom so they had more options of there to mount it. It would be cool if some bikes with plastic fuel tanks could run a clear strip down the side, like some gas/oil containers have.

Plastic dirt bike tanks can be made translucent so you see it wihtout none of this BS.

Have you tried just taking the gas cap off of your tank? You could just look in while you're riding. :dunno_black:
I actually have a Honda cb360 tank with that "fuel gauge" in my garage. Looks cool on a hardtail bike, but probably not the best on a GS.
