Title: Face lift for the old GS
Post by: reajcox on December 30, 2010, 07:57:52 AM
Santa was good this year I got paint! Also a visa card for my taillight and turn signals.

The old GS is going to get a face lift. Lets face it it was an old 93 when I got it and the PO definitely didn't care what it looked like. Its getting moved in the garage to start cleaning her up. My bobber project is going in the corner till the GS is done. The frame and wheels are going to get a shot of flat/satin (it's just called low gloss) Silver. The tank and plastics are getting a beautiful Satin Black. Don't like a lot of gloss but a low sheen is great. The tail is an led stop turn tail. I've got some work to do to fill a little bit of gap from the old light but pretty close. The front turn signals are going away as well and getting some tiny flush mount LEDs on the side of the headlight. Also, I got new grips. I'm quite excited. This little wonder bike deserves to look good. I have one more thing to add to her before I go out this spring, a new flat black modular helmet. Hmmm maybe that's for me. Who cares, I want it to look good with the bike.

I'll keep you updated with pictures. Well, as soon and I can currently I've exceeded the bandwidth for photobucket. :flipoff:

I think that tail light even if it fits would sorta look weird.
GS tail light has mount bolts straight on the back. In other words, the bolt is near perpendicular to the rear fascia. This I think is on the bottom and maybe 30 degrees to the fascia. This would work on a savage bobber, or pretty much any bobber. It needs the mount face to be near parallel to the ground.
Cool.

Hey if making cool parts fit was easy anybody could do it. Actually thats a plate mount under it. The one I used for my Bobber is a cay eye just like it and the mount bolt were straight into the back. I see the issue being getting it shimmed out enough.

Oh OK, I thought the plate mount is part of the mount for the thing. Anyway I will be shopping for my upcomming bobber sometime. I should remember this.
Cool.

Yup. So dont use it if you gotta pass inspection! Myself, I could care less. It's highly unlikely they'll take a second look as long as they see light. And if they do. They probably want to know where you got it cause they want one for their bike.

How's your chain? Photo makes it look all rusted.

The white wheels were bugging me so I broke down pulled them off, cleaned and scuffed em, and shot em black. I'll get a pic up of the finished product in a bit.
