Damn, that road looks pretty fresh. Id love to rip through that little section. There is a road in Montana just over the American border south of Alberta, that will rival any road in North America. I am going to try and find a picture. It has such extreme elevation changes, and increasing radius corners. It is holy ground :cheers:
Here's my favorite combo of roads. Good 22miles just on the ridge road alone, all curves, no straights. No through traffic either; these roads don't actually GO anywhere.l

I get go around a park thats relativly close by, but its not that fun, only few wide turns that i can take at like 80 something (only did it once probably could have gone faster), and like 2 s - bends. I need to head out to where my grandparents live, they have some very nice back roads there, well paved and twissty!!!!
Yall are liars, there aint no such roads exist ( sniff) they dont, they dont, they dont, ONlY clover leafs and and and long flat roads with potholes. (sob) South Florida is devoid of such roads, and like the world is flat (sobsob) BTW how many miles is GMR?
Just watch the Tail of the Dragon on weekends. Tons of cops there. They use a stop watch and radio down to other cops and see how long it takes you to get to the bottom. Too quick and you get a ticket. Biggest thing is passing on the double yellow. My friends got tickets for both of these this summer. Weekdays don't seem to be as bad.

Everyone should do the Dragon at least once, but until I hit the lower 200 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway on a GS500E three years ago I was just another mild mannered law abiding rider putting along happily. Life hasn't been the same since, fortunately. :lol:
From the cover of Dec 03 Rider Magazine: "Left Turn, Right Turn...Repeat 3,000 Times." Yep, that's it. Hour after hour of endless uninterupted twisties. Repeat all day long and stop only when you want to. No stop signs for hundreds of miles. In my opinion, nothing will develop your riding skills more than a run up and down the BRP at a spirited pace.
Ran a good stretch at a steady 55 mph last year. Road is posted 45 mph. Did about 100+ miles of it from I77 to Asheville, NC with a small group at a considerably more spirited pace this year on our way to Maggie Valley which is about 600 miles from where I live. So don't complain if you are not near roads like this, go find them. :thumb:
Plan on returning again next June and add the Cherohala Loop to the BRP ride. It includes the Dragon. Rain and son's accident on NC28 approaching the Dragon caused us to miss the Loop this year. Pic below shows the Dragon better than map does. :lol: :lol: :lol:
Glendora Ridge (GRR) = 24 miles
Mt Baldy Road = 10 miles or so
GMR from base up to GRR = 10 miles
GMR from GRR to Highway 39 to Azusa = 25-30 miles I think
Usually I put around 100 miles through the different combos of loops, takes about 2.5 hrs.
I'd be happy to show some of the SoCal guys my local canyons when the gates are lifted. Who knows when that could be though; last year it took a year. Unfortunately there is a lot of car street racing that goes on late at night, and some 17 year old kids drove their Accord off a cliff. This means that the CHP will likely not be in any huge rush to re-open these roads. The roads (GMR especially) are really too twisty for cars, especially when driven hard in the middle of the night.
We'll see.

Since I'm on a posting marathon today, here's the write up on Highway 243:
One of these rides, Highway 243, is easily assessable from Interstate 10 in Banning. Watch for the Eighth Street Exit, gas up, eat up and then head south. This is a screamin' uphill ride- rising some 3000 feet in 3 miles. 5000 feet in something like 11 miles. Yeah, wow! Curves, yeah we got those. Drop-offs, yeah we got those too. All I need do is tell you that, and I shouldn't have to say anything more. Point the bike and go. Very fun.
The road heads on up to those sleepy little mountain towns. The towns seem so far removed from the hustle bustle of the concrete jungle below.
Be sure and stop at Indian Look Vista on the way up for a nice little overlook. A few miles later, the road heads down to the towns of Pine Cove and Idyllwild. Grab some eats or settle in for the night- or do what I do- and keep right on riding for the next set of curves. Plenty of eats and places to lay your head. Lots of campgrounds too. A few miles later, the road becomes Highway 74. Ride this over to nearby Mt. Palomar.
I'll take you up on that tour of Glendora when it opens.

Yeah I rode it, but to me the fun part is "the skyway" you can go faster. Deal's Gap's turn are super tights, you're scraping pegs runnning them at 30 mph.

Deals is a place to visit just so you can say you been there. 3 times for me. Too many bikes, cars & cops. The BRP (at least in the parts I travel) has been subjected to more rangers & police running radar. A road that I have just been enlighted about is 321 in Shaddy Valley, TN (north of Boone, NC). This was much better than Deals. Not because I put my knee down, but the turns are flowing and good pavement. Very little auto traffic but still plenty of bikes of all makes & models. Didn't see any police though.
