Title: Need Help
Post by: sneakystodd on January 10, 2011, 01:44:48 PM
I have an 08 gs 500 f and I ran it a little low on oil and It felt like it lost some compression and there was a knocking sound. I can still start the bike and sounds great ideling or even reving it. When the bike gets some torque on it though is when there is that knocking sound again and it feels like it doesnt have as much power. I do have a little oil leak around the clutch case and really the only thing I have done is change down a tooth on the front sproket. Anyone had this problem or might know what it is.

I've been looking to buy a bike in just that condition but I'm guessing you're hoping to fix and not sell.

As far as what might be wrong I'd start by testing the compression on each cylinder.

Yeah man, i want to fix it. Still paying on it anyways. Will check the compression though. What could be causing this you think. It's very subtle

Sounds like it needed some oil and its on its way to spinning a bearing.

Get a factory service manual for any repairs. If possible, use a screwdriver with the handle against your ear to listen to any knocks. And auto parts stores might loan you a compression tester. But do some research on how to use it, it's possible to do it wrong.

Exactly how low is a "little low"?

Sneaky,

Your bike is an 08. How did you run this a little low. An 08 shouldn't be burning or leaking oil.
