Well, here she is the motorcycle I was telling you guys about. Picked it up today!
It is a '58 Harley Davidson Pan Head Duo Glide.
A lot of work to do but hey what is a project for right?
Mary
Oh, yeah. That's a cool project!
:thumb:
I've got a bad feeling Flick is going to get real Jealous!
Mary
That's a big bike! You better get to buying HD shirts, chaps, boots, HD can opener, HD toilet paper roll holder, bandanas, HD bumper stickers, underwear, hats, HD key chain, pocket knife, Ford F-150 HD edition, HD monopoly, coffee cup, grill/BBQ set, t shirt with a unicorn that says 'ride the wind', glasses, HD cell phone holster, and christmas ornaments. That does sound like a serious project. Once all that's done, you can start on the serious bike work, chroming, polishing, glitter paint, tassles. Someday you might even be able to get it running enough to get it to a bike rally.
and before you think I'm exaggerating, once I started to run out of ideas I just typed "harley davidson merchandise" in google, and most of that junk came up in the images, haha. Unicorns came up TWICE.
Seriously though, it looks like a good project! If you can handle working on the GS you shouldn't have any problem working on the new one.
Yeah, the BF said I should get an HD shirt and wear it under my Suzuki jacket one day. I said hell let me get an HD jacket and wear it on Flick and see how long I live in February when I got to Daytona LOL!
It was the BF father's he had it from brand new it just hasn't been run in years. A brother had gotten it in the will didn't do anything with it and so now it comes to us!
Tomorrow after school will be getting all of the dirt, dust, and crud off. Will take pictures of this as I go.
Flick is a very jealous boy. I remember the last time I stopped to look at a Goldwing for the BF. Well, Flick's battery decides to krap out right then in the front yard! Yeah, that wasn't on purpose at all. Or the day I looked at the "07 honda interceptor with touring bags. Yeah, he sprung an oil leak that I just fixed this past weekend! So, what stunt is 'ole boy going to pull now that he is sitting in the garage with an American competitor. Hell, he probably won't even start tomorrow.
Mary
Ahhh yes, the pans. is it both kick and electric start?, and ifyou have any HD questions, ask away i can answer, both early, late and most all models. ( very easy to work on) hell if you ever have to put rings on it, you can overhaul engine WHILE its in bike. ive got pdf's ive made of almost all hd engines since thepan days. also trans, electrics etc jusLMK happy to help out a fellow rider of ANY bike, but my MO is mainly HD
OH yeah! Sure could use some links to the engine parts and such. We are going to try and restore to original. It is kickstart only!
Is there anyway to tell what the original paint scheme was on this? Apparently, the rattle can made it's way to this bike

Be ABSOLUTELY sure the timing is not off, if it backfires @ the wrong spot, it can break legs, or send you flying. ( but easy to check timing under thecam cover ( visible in that pic ) that cone shaped thign underneath the pushrods. will be marks on teh cams, as well as the end of crank and everything else that intersects with the cam gears. dots touch ( timing set) ill dig up the wiring on it, and harley titles teh bikes via the frame vin number AND the engine vin number as well. ( ppl will buy a harley new, and drop an S&S crate engine in it, ive installed those), BUT it WILL ruin thetitle. ceases to become a harley, and becomes a "custom build", BUT cops never go THAT deep. anyhoo the frame vin, and engine vin will give you original paint colour. as well as which plant built it, etc size of wheels etc
Nice project....
The paint.... pull the gas tank off and look underneath...or pull the speedo housing off the tank-might be able to see it under there (or pull the tail light off the rear fender...).
Since it's rattle can...you may try a good solvent on a rag and rub a spot for awhile and see what comes off...
"You can have it in any color you want as long as it's Black." heheh...
Very Nice Project... that's the style Of Harley I like... (Electra Glides etc...like the older Police bikes....).
Enjoy
Cool, thanks for the start of the info. I highly doubt we are going to "murder" this bike out LOL! Today is cleaning day when I get back from school!
Mary
Nahhh not murdered out..... (That's typically flat black....). Nice Gloss- quality paint job.... or even Two tone like it sort of is there....
We might be doing the Skyline Blue/ Birch white. Really wanna go stock! Gonna put up some more pics from clean up later. Polished up the gas gaps just 20 minutes and My Oh My they are shiney!
Mary
Very nice should make a nice project can't wait to see the progress.
Here is a buncha Pics!

Bit o' love and she'll be beautiful again. ;)
Aye underneath that cover beside rear brake pedal is where timing is set
Does it have a 2nd brake pedal you can press with your heel, or what's that extra lever right behind the footboard? (not the kickstart, I see that one as well)
