I was doing a federectomy today, and this o-ring thingie fell out from under the bike, in the area of the gearbox/chain/sump. I'm thinking it may have been something I picked up off the road that stuck to the bottom of the bike, but I wanted to make sure...pic attached.

Haha! This looks like the rubber that holds the toolkit in place. Take a look and see if it's missing.
Wait...these things came with tool kits? Since most people buy these bikes used I wonder how many have actually seen the original toolkit.
Yea, that's the rubber to hold in the tool kit. They also came as a rubber strip with square metal loop at each end.
Oh cool. Mine has the toolkit (which I took out when federing). How does it attach?

I bought the most beat up GS500 around and it still had the tool kit, believe it or not!
Yup, Flick has the tool kit. But, the bag is ripping at one end. I'm trying to find a roll up tool holder does anyone know where to get one?

I keep one of these in addition to the factory tool kit because the factory kit is really for changing tires and tightening the chain. It doesn't have the smaller tools for all the controls and accessories

You might try that and stuff into the case the couple tools you might need on the road that it doesn't have.
I stuff in thread lock, extra fuses, couple electrical connectors and a couple other tools & screws.
Heh, didn't even think about that but Big Lots has those sets for $5 might see if they still have them!

Toogoofy - Try looking for a roll-up case for cooking knives. Should do the trick quite nicely.
I still have my original tool kit. I have never used it. I pull them out every few months and oil them just in case I do some day so they wont be a rusty mess.
Yeah the tool kit for mine was mia. I picked up an oem suzuki one off ebay.
well as long as were on the subject, i picked up my 97 in 2009 from what appeared to me to be a crack head, and it had the tool kit.
I have never seen an original gs tool kit, however my current bike has it and I've used it many times for many things.
i got my GS brand new, so it has a tool kit.... but i have not seen that o-ring.
