Title: LAMS
Post by: lucifer_mr2 on January 24, 2011, 05:48:28 AM
Went for a bit of a ride on the weekend with some friends, about 600km round trip. Also had quite a few people I'd never met before there as well.

Anyway, a guy on an R6 thought my bike was fast, and was surprised to find out that my bike was learner approved (150kw per tone, with 68kg for rider and a bit more for fuel added to the weight of the bike). Had to explain to him that it was a sub 500cc air cooled bike that was basically unchanged in 20 years, with crap suspension and no aero dynamics (well he could see that).

Anyone else have someone think that their bike is fast?

My 10 yr old stepson.
The guy in the RAV4 who tried to lose me on the Burringbar Range today.
The guy in the WRX who tried to lose me on the Burringbar Range when we did the relay run last year.
In fact, pretty much every cage that tries to lose me on the Burringbar Range!

Did I mention I love riding the Burringbar Range?  :icon_twisted:

Never had anyone think my bike was fast.  But, I ride with a bunch of veteran riders, who know that it's rider skill that makes a bike fast.

A guy on an older ZX10 who, after a set of twisties some of which I could see he was cutting the corners, said, "You made me work for it Micky". Well, he had to cut corners to keep up. Easy get me on the straights, but not the tight twists.

A guy on a ZX9 who, when I first rode with him, thought I'd be languishing at the rear. As he came through the pack he was wondering "Where's the guy on the GS" only to finally find me 2nd from the front. Of course he flew by me on the straights but he also commented when we pulled up. I just told him not to underestimate the GS.  :icon_mrgreen:

Hey Mole... the speed cam on the range is active. I know someone who went through it today thinking it was fake and it flashed him - whoops!

Harley guy, real friendly, at an overlook in NH, "Bullet bike. Crotch Rocket. You ride a bullet bike, huh? Aren't they uncomfortable?"

Me- "Naw, this is a 30 year old design, air cooled, two valve 500 twin. 40 horse. Wish Harley made something in this size."

Him-Nodding. Spits a wad of tobacco juice.

I did on a few occasions on the gs.

Once was when I went on a road trip with my dad (on his Shadow 1100), going through Alabama towards Montgomery. We stop at a gas station to wait out some rain. A guy comes over and starts talking to dad about his bike and how he has a Harley, and then he looks at mine and says 'I bet that thing is fast.' I just nodded and went back to my Snickers bar.

Another was on the way to Hilton Head Island, yet again stopped at a gas station, but this time in south Georgia (hickville). A guy my age steps out of his jacked up Toyota and says 'Hey man, you drag race that thing?'. I said 'Naw man, I couldn't keep the front wheel down if I tried'. He just gave it a look of admiration and went on into the store.

Yeah, all the guys in my office give me a hard time about riding a "crotch rocket"...I just laugh and nod...I guess it is quite a bit faster than a 1 ton truck...only one guy in the office knows, and he keeps quiet...his last bike was a Honda RC51...more bike than I would want yet...

Later.

Are you trying to say you are "manly"?  That's not the picture I have in my head...the name Mary doesn't imply manliness... :dunno_black:

Well I can tell you it goes 180km/h. (At least that's what it said on the speedo :p)

Did a big group ride last year, and through the windy bits the only thing preventing me from keeping up with my group was me. a mate on a monster dropped back to find out where I had got to, and after watching/copying his technique for a bit we soon caught back, and there was no slouching on the speed by them either.

Came back on a more relaxed, straight route, and even a guy on a hayabusa was impressed that it didn't struggle to keep up/overtake at the speeds we were doing.
