Title: Advance Riding Course
Post by: Shaddow on January 27, 2011, 03:08:48 PM
I just did A Stay Upright riding course on Monday and I've got to say money well spent. They helped me improve my cornering and braking heaps. It also helped to have a race track with good condition and great corners to practice on. My funnest part was the Duke rider who couldn't loose my little 500. Every time he came out of a corner there I was on his inside in front. He'd plant it and pull away from me eventually and next corner I'd do the same thing. I enjoyed that immensely.

But yea the course has made me much more aware of my riding on the road. Can't wait to be able to afford the next level course.

Good stuff. Once it warms up I'm gonna retake the beginners MSF course. It's been 10 years since I took it, and I think I've got a few things i could relearn. After that I'm gonna take the advanced course. Luckily I live in PA and both are free!

Wow, must be nice to have a free course. It is now required here in Fl and you gotta pay $250 and they wonder why there is such a spike in unlicensed riders.

I'm thinking about doing the advanced riders course get that insurance discount!

What does the course cost without a coupon/voucher? I would be interested in an advanced course.

You can have mine, if you like. I got a "free half day" voucher when I picked up the 900 and I won't be using it. They reckon, for the full day it will now Only cost $160, other wise it would be another hundred or so on top of that.

I asked what the Half day entailed and was told emergency stops, emergency avoidance, slalom. Sound like Q ride to you? The second half of the day has cornering and you get to go on the track and Practice it.

I may take you up on that offer. I want to sort my cornering out but do not want to do Q ride manoeuvres again.

Unfortunately I went down to Sydney Eastern Creek Raceway, Newy doesn't have anything like these courses on offer. Makes for a long day riding down and riding back, about 2.5 hours down and another 2.5 back.

On another note one thing I noted when doing the course is how many people seem to be scared of their bikes. Something I didn't expect to see to much of but did see allot.

I think there's a lot of people scared of their bikes. I had a friend with a 636 years ago, and absolutely every time I told him we should go out for a good ride he'd either show up with his girlfriend on the back or bring along his buddy with a 20 year old cruiser. Both were cool, but you could tell he was terrified to actually ride the bike.

I fully intend to buy a bike that scares the life out of me. I doubt I'll keep it that long, but it's something you've at least gotta try haha. If nothing else it'll just make me appreciate smaller bikes even more than I already do.

If you want a motorcycle that scares you, consider a Kawasaki Mach IV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kawasaki_H2_Mach_IV). 750cc 2 stroke tripple, on a frame and suspension that would scare a ninja 250 owner.

I own a GS and a big (1300cc I4) bike. The fear of a big engine wears off pretty quickly.

Thats a shame, would've been well up for it if it was in Newy.
