Hi all, I recently picked up a beater of a '92 gs500 for $200. It had been spilled, and mistreated before that. I cleaned the carbs in an ultrasonic cleaner, and she runs good except when I let off the throttle and it will stick at 3-4k rpms.
One thing about this bike is that the timing cover was left off for some time. Im thinking it may have stuck the mechanical advance in the weather, and its leaving the advance stuck advanced. Is this possible? Do these bikes have mechanical advances (didnt see one, but I figured its set back some), or electric?
It happens basically every time I bring the revs past 3k.

Step 0 cured Mrs. Bad Example's GS hanging throttle problem. Easy to adjust, but watch your knuckles ("fully warmed up" means HOT!)
Appreciate it. I left out the O-ring that goes under the vacuum ports on the top. Sprayed some starter fluid near it, and it went nuts.
Another question... can anyone tell me what this seats from? It fits the bike, but obviously isnt the right seat. Im thinking it may be for the later years with different side panels, but you tell me.

Also, heres a pic of when I got it. I tossed those bars that were the stock ones off of my Honda GL500 on it just so it was easier to move.

looks like an 04+ seat to me
Same seat as my 02.
02+ seat with old style tank and side covers.
Yea there isn't much on this bike that is right.
Cool.
Buddha.
