Title: Anyone had this problem with the fuel hoses?
Post by: dread_au on January 29, 2011, 05:39:24 PM
The brass tube that connects the reserve (I assumes as it is marked R) Has come out with the hose.

Do I just bash it back in or get a new assembly which would be safer but more expensive.

Thanks in advance for responses.

In the past I have pushed the tube back into the hole, then tapped it home with a rawhide mallet, then swedged it tight by a few center punch marks to the alloy piece...it didn't leak or ever come loose again.

CCPDYMMV

NOTE: it was not on a GS I did this to

Thanks Stevo. I will wait for a few more responses before I decide on what action I will take.

I assume by other posts you have an "F". Too bad you're so far away. I have a few in my parts box. Hey - buy me a ticket and I'll bring you one! Direct flight from Seattle.....?

Yea, jam it back in like Stevo says. You might clean things really well first and smear a little fuel-proof glue or paint on it when you jam it back in for a little extra sealing.

If that doesn't work, buy a used one from a bike breaker. If none around, find another GS500.... have someone smash into it....  buy the part cheap from the sad owner who now needs a new bike (and if anyone asks, I didn't suggest that, either).

Yes, please tell us it isn't so. A brick is the obvious tool of choice.

If it comes out again, re-bash it in with some 'Loctite'.

Put a smear of Araldite on there and it will never come out again.
