Disc brake cleaner.
Brakes get grease and dirt on them in wet weather then start squeaking.
Works for me.

It's thick, it's black and super gooey, one thin application to the back of the pads and the squeaking is gone for years, yes it's good enough to put an end to "Squeaking Brake" threads. Your brakes are squeaking from the piston making contact with the back of the brake pad  :thumb:

Yes, or an equivalent...just play dumb and ask somebody there? It comes in blister packs by another name, doesn't need to be M-77, just an equvalent.
I have also used Permatex 80077 Disc Brake Quiet - 12 oz. Aerosol Can  with great results. (mostly automotive, gooey and rubbery)
It also comes as  Permatex 82017 Disc Brake Quiet, 4 fl oz Squeeze Bottle, in any case you apply all of the products to the back of the pad.

Yeah...I use to pull the pads and sand them, another experiment was to put thin little shims made from liter bottles of pop behind the pads, neither idea lasted very long...in the end the goo worked the best  :thumb:

If you end up using the Goo...use it sparingly  :thumb:

Does this work on brake shoes as well? I have another bike with an horribly squeaky rear drum break that drives me nuts!

What I thought your bike was "puuuurfect" see now you can name the bike Squeeky!

Brake squeal does seem to be found often on our 500s.

No, but you could try sanding the glaze off the shoes and drum and try a light coat of grease at the pivot, that might help?

Front brake squeak has not been a problem on the GS500s for me.  Never had a front squeak in over 160k miles of GS500 riding and I turned the front rotor blue and completely faded out the front brake once up in the mountains of upstate NY.  The 4 Hondas I had before the GSs really had a front brake squeak problem but that dosen't count here except to say if I leaned on the front brake a bit harder it didn't squeak so I'm thinking you must be using your front brake rather lightly as a new rider.

The GS500 rear brake can be a real squeaker and I've had plenty of that.  Found out it could be eliminated by getting the rear wheel aligned perfectly and haven't had it for a long time now.  Different lining brands can make a big difference too.

Yeah, Jack your right it's the rear brake why was I thinking that.  :dunno_black:  My rear brake squeaked like crazy we sanded the rotor a wee bit and no problem since :thumb:
